How it all began

Dmitry Budrik lives opposite the gym and works in the Legion coaching staff. He says that as a child he played volleyball and played in the first league for a long time. “We spent almost everything in the hall free time, although the conditions for training were worse than the current ones. For more than 20 years of work as a children's coach, Oleksiy Giedroyt has nurtured hundreds of players, including: Roman Aplevich, Pavel Dosevich (both now play in Shakhtar Soligorsk), Dmitry Kumasa, Artem Shumel, Yuriy Martynov, Sergey Karpov, Vadim Malyshev, Oleksiy Gedroyt (son) ... All of them - were or are - players of the national team at different ages.

To be honest, I always liked tinkering with kids even more than working with established professionals. In all the years of work, I have not yet said the word “unpromising” to any child. Yes, according to anthropometry, endurance, strength data, not all children are suitable for volleyball. But why refuse? Even if the child does not connect his life with sports, thanks to him he will be constantly busy, which means he will not puff or drink around the corner - and he will grow up to be a good decent person.
Aleksey Gedroit cannot stand formalism, work with incomplete dedication and takes care of his pupils more abruptly than some parents. For example, when one of the older guys thinks about moving from Obukhovo to some large city and continuing his career there, the coach goes there and asks all sorts of questions. Both global (so that a novice athlete is not marinated in a deep reserve, given housing and an opportunity to get an education), and smaller ones (for example, it requires that the parents of a volleyball player be able to visit him twice a year at the expense of the club) ...
The present
Players, of course, appreciate such paternal care and literally stand up for their coach. After the Legion moved from a cramped first-league room to an elite suite a year ago, demand for the team's players has increased markedly in the volleyball market, but despite this, it has not collapsed like a house of cards. One of the old-timers of the Legion, Kirill Zhvirblya, is sure that it could not be otherwise: “When we got the right to play in the elite, many players were invited to other clubs. But we got together, sat down, talked - and decided that at least the first season in the major leagues we would play with the same squad that we made our way here. Our average salary is only 500 dollars a month, some guys, including me, live not only by volleyball, but also work. In other clubs, financial conditions were offered much more attractive than we have in Legion: the minimum is $1,000. Even in unsuccessful matches, none of the fans will throw a harsh word at their players. The boys from the youth sports school can fool around with older volleyball players and help prepare the gym for matches. Some pupils of Giedroyt are already beginning to realize themselves as successors of his work (Evgeny Kulak works as a children's coach at the Youth Sports School, and Dmitry Budrik assists his former mentor at the Legion). Future
Nevertheless, the age of a professional volleyball player is not long, and you cannot spread ideas on bread. Therefore, it is possible that in this off-season someone will leave the Legion for promotion to other clubs. But no matter how many of them turn out to be, there is confidence: the team will not wither away. There is where to feed on new personnel (from the youth under the "Legion" a double was created, playing in the regional championship). And the erasure from the country's volleyball map due to financial troubles, as it seems, does not threaten the club. Like many other teams in team sports, it is not easy for the Legion now, but it is not left alone with its problems. Our line is not to spend money on legionnaires, but to educate our players and make money on it. The proceeds should be invested in further development.
Only 10 balls have been purchased for Legion this season. At times he faces a lack sports nutrition and medicines. The guys get to the away matches not by the club bus, but by a rented minibus. But the club's players do not cry, but philosophically notice that difficulties make them stronger.
