Georgy Shchennikov is the son of a four-time world champion and a silver medalist Olympic Games in race walking by Mikhail Shchennikov. His father played for the CSKA sports society and as a child often took Zhora to train at the athletics arena in Leningradka - the same one where the red-blue football office has been based for many years. George was indifferent to race walking, but genes still played a role. Having chosen for a short time between tennis, swimming and football, Shchennikov Jr. decided to devote himself to the number one sport.

Until the fifth grade of the school, the young athlete trained at the place of residence - in Krylatskoye. And after that he moved to the Youth Sports School PFC CSKA, where the army coaches almost immediately saw in the guy a remarkable talent, which was devoted to the proper cut.

Shchennikov owes his debut in the first team to Valery Gazzaev, who entrusted him with a place in the away cup meeting with Torpedo Vladimir (August 6, 2008, the army team confidently won - 4: 1). But Zhora established himself among the masters already under the Brazilian Zico, who, having come to PFC CSKA, unexpectedly for many put him at the base in his very first official match - the UEFA Cup match against Aston Villa in Birmingham.

Since then, Georgiy has been steadily progressing and every year he becomes an increasingly important figure in the defensive formations of our team. The best proof of this is the mark of 200 official matches for the club, which Shchennikov is about to exchange. Of course, the left-back of PFC CSKA took the most active part in winning all the trophies that our team has conquered since the debut of Georgy. Shchennikov - two-time champion, three-time winner of the Cup and Super Cup of Russia.

In 2012, in a match against Côte d'Ivoire, the soldier first entered the field in a T-shirt of the country's national team.

Georgy was included in the final application of the Russian team for the 2014 World Cup, but did not appear on the field in this tournament.

George's confident play in subsequent seasons allowed him not only to remain a stable player starting lineup at the club, but also to earn the right to play at the 2016 European Championship.

The game action of the entire tournament for Shchennikov can be called an outstanding goal pass by Vasily Berezutsky at the very end of the match with the British, thanks to which our team saved a draw (1:1).

Georgy also continues to take an active part in replenishing the club's piggy bank with various awards, having added one "gold" and two "silver" to it over the past three seasons.

    Curious fact

Georgy Shchennikov has known his current wife Diana since school. In the summer of 2013, the couple celebrated their wedding, and on July 23, 2014, a significant event took place in a young family - their son Daniel was born.

Georgy Shchennikov is a successful Russian football player, defender of CSKA Moscow and the national team. Three-time champion of Russia in football, three times won the Cup and Super Cup of Russia. Member of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 European Championship. The son of four-time world champion Mikhail Shchennikov, who won Olympic silver in race walking in 1996, multiplied his father's glory: at the age of 18 he won the title of the best young football player in Russia.

    Childhood and youth

The future defender of CSKA and the Russian national team was born in the capital in the spring of 1991. The atmosphere that prevailed in the house left George no other option than to become an athlete. Both Shchennikova's father and mother devoted their lives to sports: father - race walking, mother - athletics.

The father brought the young Muscovite to the "army" football school. The boy, who studied in the fifth grade, fell into the talented hands of coach Nikolai Konovalov. A year later, Georgy Shchennikov brought the mentor the main prize of the youth tournament in Astrakhan.

In the summer of 2014, his wife gave George their first child, son Daniel, and in the summer of 2017, the couple had a daughter, Ulyana. The CSKA defender does not flaunt his personal life: it is difficult to persuade him for an interview, he rarely appears on social networks. Fans see family pictures of the favorite on his wife's page on Instagram.

Recovering from an ankle injury, Georgy Shchennikov pulled up his studies at the Academy of Physical Education in six months. I passed some tests in advance in order to free up time in the future and not to break away from training and games.

What he will do after the end of his sports career, George has not yet decided. For six months of forced rest, he became interested in economics and thought about the second higher education. It is possible that Shchennikov will focus on coaching, close and understandable.

    Georgy Shchennikov now

In the 2017/2018 season, the CSKA defender participated in the 26th national championship and the UEFA Champions League, scoring debut goals. But in May 2018, it became known that Shchennikov left the team until the end of the season due to injury.

According to Championship.com, the 27-year-old football player will not be able to help the Army Men in the remaining matches of the national championship, where CSKA will face Arsenal Tula and Anji Makhachkala.

This season, the defender has played 19 games in the Football Premier League (RFPL), scoring 3 goals and making one assist.

George, hold five! CSKA defender Georgy Shchennikov became the winner of the "First Five" -2009

Yesterday, the Vysotsky club summed up the results of the annual First Five award, which is awarded to the most talented young football player in Russia at the end of the year. CSKA defender Georgy Shchennikov became the eighth excellent student. The correspondent of "Soviet Sport" asked the laureate what he dreams of and who he looks up to, he learned from his parents how to raise a talented football player, and from Leonid Slutsky how not to ruin this talent.

    EVENT OF THE DAY. FOOTBALL
    SEASON REWARDS

Yesterday, the Vysotsky club summed up the results of the annual First Five award, which is awarded to the most talented young football player in Russia at the end of the year. CSKA defender Georgy Shchennikov became the eighth excellent student. The correspondent of "Soviet Sport" asked the laureate what he dreams of and who he looks up to, he learned from his parents how to raise a talented football player, and from Leonid Slutsky how not to ruin this talent.

The lights on the stage of the Vysotsky club go out, and the famous football song by Vladimir Semenovich sounds from the speakers about the difficult fate of the left back and about that stubborn right insider, for whom “it’s like football, like ballet”: “The ball hid in the cut grass, a second of pause on field and on the air ... ". So, in an original way, with a twist, yesterday began the celebration of the winner of the "First Five" -2009 award, a soldier Georgy Shchennikov.

"Excellent" in Russian football revealed for the eighth year in a row. five of them ( Bystrov, Kerzhakov, Akinfeev, Bilyaletdinov and last year's winner Dzagoev) can already call themselves solid national team players. Three others ( Shishkin, Kirill Kombarova and actually Shchennikova) in the national team, who knows, everything is still ahead.

But with all the seriousness of the adult work that "shines" Shchennikov, the organizers of the event were set in a childishly relaxed and fun way. So, on stage, George appeared in a tunic. And the ensign of All Russia, actor, was the first to congratulate the army defender Alexey Maklakov, known to the general public for the role of ensign Shmatko from the TV series "Soldiers", and presented Shchennikov with shoulder straps with five stars. CSKA coach came next Leonid Slutsky and equipped his ward with a real saber! Isn't it so that in the spring Georgiy cuts down the stubborn right-wing insiders of Sevilla in the Champions League?

Zhora has something to cut opponents without this saber, - Slutsky reassured the audience. - But if his right leg becomes a serious weapon, then the effectiveness of Shchennikov's defender will generally be prohibitive!

    - This is Shchennikov's second prize for the year. Are you happy to have such talent on your team?- Slutsky was asked after the award.

    - The "First Five" is rather an advance, an assessment of his initial abilities, which George has yet to develop. Everyone knows that the second season for a young player is much more difficult than the first. Therefore, I wish Zhora that those advances that he was given today will be justified to him in the very near future.

MAKLAKOV: SHCHENNIKOV IS DIFFERENT FROM COLLECTIONS IN HISTY

    - How did you, a Spartak player, present a prize to a football player of a team that is considered the worst enemy of the red-and-whites?- the correspondent of "Soviet Sport" asked the actor Maklakov after the ceremony.

And this is not me, this is Ensign Shmatko, - Maklakov laughs. - The organizers probably worked out a stereotype, since Georgy is a football player of the army club, then a serviceman should present the prize to him. But seriously, this event has nothing to do with club loyalty. Shchennikov is not only the hope of the army, but also the hope of the Russian team. In general, he gives the impression of a very pleasant, well-mannered guy. There is a feeling that a generation of young talented football players is growing up in Russia, who differ from their older comrades from the Russian national team in one advantageous quality - modesty. George, of course, knows his own worth, but does not behave arrogantly. This makes me happy.

    - Among the nominees this year were Spartak. If it were your choice, would you give the prize to one of them?

All Spartacists deserve an award. But we had an ambiguous year - we saw off too long Laudrup. It was necessary to give a command from the beginning of the year Karpin then the youth would get more chances to show themselves. And I want to convey to the Spartak fans: “Friends, I have not gone over to the camp of the enemy, I am still with you! I hope we will be champions next year!”

    - You gave Shchennikov shoulder straps with five stars. What kind of title is this?

Something non-existent. Although you can specially sew on such shoulder straps for football players. For special merit.

NATALIA SHCHENNIKOVA: THE ATHLETES IN ZHORA WERE RECOGNIZED FROM BIRTH

In fact, that Shchennikov would become a professional athlete, one could only predict who his parents were. Father, Mikhail Shchennikov, for example, a four-time world champion in race walking, a silver medalist at the 96 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

And I don’t regret that my son didn’t follow in my footsteps and didn’t start studying athletics, - Mikhail admits. “It was just important to me that he went in for sports. Once Zhora came home and said that at school he was enrolled in the football section. I thought: why not? Now I don't regret it.

Natalya Shchennikova, a charming mother of an excellent student, is also used to enduring solid loads. It seems that she will soon catch up with her son in the number of interviews that the media had to give out today. "Soviet sport" Natalia also did not "spared".

    - Georgiy has just received his first football five. And how was it with the fives at school?

    - Zhora studied well from the first day of school, - my mother answers. - But until a certain moment - when football became a profession in his life, there was no time left for study. In the 10th and 11th grades, my son no longer studied - I can honestly say this. Zhora began to be involved in the training of the main team of CSKA, and they begin at 11 am. So we just didn't have time to go to school. But the son passed the exam on his own, on an equal basis with everyone else, and he himself passed it with a B. The only thing I can complain about is that Zhora has no perseverance. If something does not work out for him, he does not like to think about it and switches to another. But we insisted to the end that our son finish his studies at school, because sport is sport - you never know whether you will eventually stand out from the rest or not.

    - And you yourself, to be honest, what did you want to see George when he grows up?

In a sports family, there was not much choice - Zhora from childhood grew up strong and agile, like a real athlete.

    - When did you realize that your son is a footballer?

It was impossible to say right away - he managed to play everything. And in tennis, and in volleyball, and in basketball ... At school, Zhora played for all the teams that were. Initially, no one gave him to football. We can say that Zhora went to the football section in Krylatsky "to the heap", because he did his homework very quickly and he always had a lot of free time after school and tennis, which was before football.

    - Why didn't tennis go?

In tennis, the child must be constantly taken somewhere, to tournaments, training. All this requires very serious financial investments, and we could not afford it. That's why football was born.

    - Is CSKA a family?

    - Yes sir! Dad served with us and also worried about the army club all his life. The son was inherited. Therefore, when Zhora saw the announcement of admission to the CSKA school, there was not a moment's doubt. He and Misha went to see it, and they took their son.

SHCHENNIKOV: I MET SEMAK IN THE METRO

It turns out that when Shchennikov was still performing at the Children's football league, he was not a left-back at all, but ... a striker! But when Georgy moved from the sports school in Krylatskoye to CSKA, the coach made him a central defender - it was necessary to put someone against the most dangerous forward of the entire DFL of the railwayman Alexandra Kokorina, the one who is now playing in the Moscow Dynamo. The experiment was a success, and Shchennikov did not return to the attack.

    - At the beginning of the season, Zico tried you as a left midfielder, switching places with Zhirkov. Do you dream of the laurels of an ex-teammate? - a question to Shchennikov.

    - Not. Midfield is not mine. I realized this truth just then. I'm more comfortable as a left back.

    - And which of your colleagues in the role do you like the most?

I like the laterals - extreme defenders, often joining the attack. Dani Alves from Barça Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

    - Did the fact that your father was an athlete with an Olympic past give you an advantage over your peers?

    - I should ask my peers, but my parents brought me up strictly - after each game, my dad sorted out my mistakes with me, suggested where and what needs to be corrected. But thank you parents! As a child, my father drove me to school, worried about me, often played ball in the yard together.

    - Is it true that you met Sergei Semak in the subway?

Yes, I was 13 at the time. Semak went up the escalator, and I stood with my back to him. He came up and asked if I play for the army? We met, drove six or seven stations together. Semak asked who my parents are, what they do, wished me success in my career, grow up to be a good player.

    - Which match in your career was the best and which was the worst?

    - From Manchester United to Old Trafford. And the best and the worst too. Even before the match, no one could have imagined that by the end of the game in Manchester we would be two goals ahead of Manchester United. But when it happened, we didn't even agree to a draw. You have no idea how upset everyone was after the ball treacherously ricocheted from my back into the goal.

    - Is it true that you supported Arsenal as a child?

    - Yes. Was my favorite footballer Thierry Henry.

    - If you played for the Russian national team and in order to pass the Slovenian national team, you would have to do the same as Henry did in the match with Ireland, would you play with your hand?

I don't even know how to answer. It is still difficult for me to imagine myself in the Russian national team.

It was a match of one sixteenth Cup of the country. This was followed by a match against Baltika, which the footballer played from start to finish.

Another cup game was the third match that he played in the main team of Shchennikov. It was a UEFA Cup game against Deportivo. The football player appeared on the field only at the end of the second half in the eighty-sixth minute, coming on as a substitute. Muscovites won a landslide victory, the score was three-zero. Shchennikov vs. Spartak

In 2010, the talented CSKA player, together with his team, managed to reach the fourth Champions League final. This turned out to be an excellent message for George to further develop his condition and abilities.

In the spring of 2011, George received a serious ankle injury. She knocked him out of the training process for almost six months. Shchennikov was able to return to training, and then to the game, only in the fall, at the very end of October.

In 2014, Georgy scored during the match with Terek - it was one fourth of the Russian Cup. It is Shchennikov who scored the decisive goal in the one hundred and eleventh minute. As part of the red-blue, this goal was the first for George. Despite the fact that the football player has only one goal, he is considered one of the strongest players in the CSKA defense line. The fact is that the number of goals scored in the goal is not a significant indicator for the defender, moreover, this indicator is only of secondary importance.

Georgy Shchennikov in the Russian national team

George was first invited to the national youth team in 2009. Then he made his debut. Shchennikov played in five matches for the youth team.

    Georgy Shchennikov's personal life

George, after the victory of his team in the National Championship, married a girl named Diana. We can say that he celebrated the victory in a very peculiar way. Young people met for more than one year, since school. The ceremony was attended by all the players of the team and, of course, the coach of the army club.

The team prepared a special surprise as a congratulation - this is a video congratulation. It was a scratch show with makeup, dressing up, make-up, professional costumes and props. The guys performed like real actors, among them were Akinfeev, Slutsky and other football players. There was a twenty-minute funny show.

George spent the recovery time after the injury to good use. For six months, he “cleaned up” all the tails at the Academy of Physical Education, passing some tests in advance. The teachers noted that the footballer began to excel not only in sports, but also in studies. The young man has not yet decided what he will do at the end of his career. After the injury, when there was a lot of free time, he became interested in economics, and thought about getting a second education later. It is quite possible that in the future Shchennikov will consider such a perspective as coaching.
