Number 1 is the winner of the Olympic Games-2012 bronze medal in 56 kg Cuban Lazaro Alvarez... At the age of 25, the representative of a country known for good boxers, cigars and rhythmic dances, won the world championships and the Pan American Games. He was also the leader of the fourth season of WSB, where he lost only to the famous Dagestani amateur representing Azerbaijan, Albert Selimov.

    Alvarez vs. Selimov at the World Championships in Doha / vesti.kz

    It is the Dagestani who is the second number in the 60 kg division. On their previous Olympic Games Selimov played for Russia and in the first fight he was destroyed by a Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko... After failures, Albert made his debut in the World Series of Boxing and changed his citizenship. At the last World Championship, the newly minted Azerbaijani lost only to Alvarez by technical knockout.

    All other participants in the Olympics are also able to surprise. Strong boxers like the Russian Adlan Abdurashidov and APB champion from ubekistan Khurshid Tadjibaev... These boxers are also at a high amateur level, but in skill they are slightly inferior to Alvarez and Selimov.

Both could become contenders for a gold medal, but the Russian Boxing Federation decided to give preference to Dunaitsev, who is imprisoned for amateur boxing, and not to Zakaryan, who acts as a semi-pro.

    Also, among the contenders for the gold medal, it is worth highlighting the bronze medalist of London 2012 in 60 kg Yasniel Toledo successfully performing at WSB. After the Olympics, the Cuban lifted 64 kg, where he has not yet won big starts and won only silver at the World Championships in Almaty in 2013 and bronze in Doha in 2015.

    Vladimir Matveichuk / FBU

    Ukraine in 64 kg is represented by the Berdichev boxer Vladimir Matveichuk... The Ukrainian won the right to participate in the tournament thanks to the WSB qualifying tournament in Venezuela. On it, Vladimir lost only in the semifinals to an Armenian Vanessa Bachkov.

    Winners of the World Championship in Doha / vesti.kz

    At 69 kg, there are several favorites, including the Moroccan Mohammed Rabia, Cuban Ronel Iglesias Sotolongo, and Kazakh Daniyar Eleusnov.

    The last world championship in Qatar was won by 23-year-old Rabii. The Moroccan in Doha reached the final, where he defeated the winner of the world championship in 2013, Yeleusinov. At the upcoming Olympic tournament, the Moroccan and the Kazakh are again on the list of the main contenders for gold medals.

    The favorites also included the 27-year-old bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympics, the 2009 world champion, and the gold Olympic medalist London - Sotolongo. This technical and fast boxer should never be discounted. In 2016, in addition to participating in qualifying tournaments, the Cuban participated in the WSB and capitulated in a duel with the Ukrainian Sergey Bogachuk... In that meeting, the Vinnitsa boxer began to press Sotolongo from the first seconds. The first two rounds, the Cuban endured the pressure and won thanks to counterattacks, but the Ukrainian took the rest of the fight. However, at OI-2016, such tactics will probably not bring results, since we will have 3 rounds instead of five.

    Dmitry Mitrofanov / APB

    The 26-year-old Ukrainian, unstable in recent years, is one of the main contenders for victory at the Olympic tournament. If Dmitry returned to his former stability, we would have put him in the top five best fighters in the tournament.

    His main rival will be the eternal enemy Artem Chebotarev with whom Mitrofanov has a long history of confrontations. At the moment, the Russian is in the lead with a score of 3: 1.

    Also in favorites Olympic tournament- 23 year old Cuban Arlen Lopez who won the 2015 World Championship and finished second in the 2016 WSB season.

    The 2013 World Champion also put on the Olympic medal of the highest standard of eye Zhanibek Alimkhanuly from Kazakhstan. Although the boxer won his last trophy back in 2014, he is only 23 years old and has a chance of success.

    La Cruz vs. Ward at the World Championships in Doha / vesti.kz

    In the light heavyweight category, you can personally observe the skill of a gifted 26-year-old Cuban Julio Cesara la Cruz... During his career as an amateur, Julio won three world championships in 2011, 2013, 2015. He was also the favorite at the 2012 Games, but lost to the Brazilian in the quarterfinals. Florentino yamaguchi... In 2016, Cruz is the main favorite for gold.

    The silver medalist is among the leaders of 81 kg last championship Mira, 22-year-old Irish Joseph Ward... The two-time European champion at the Doha tournament showed a very good performance. The Irish boxer has passed all strong opponents, except for Cruz.

    London silver medalist 23-year-old will also perform in Rio Adilbek Niyazymbetov... This Kazakh boxer was skilled and experienced to enter the podium of the main competitions. An Uzbek glove master must compete with a Kazakh Elshod Rasulov... He has even more experience and is always among the prize-winners at continental and world championships.

    The novelty of the new Olympic Games 2016 will be the participation of professionals. The most titled of them was the former professional world champion Cameroonian. Hassan N'Dam N'Zhikam... The peak of this boxer fell on 2010-2012 and the "temporary" championships according to the WBA and WBO. The reputable boxing resource BoxRec now continues to place the Cameroonian in the Top 10 in the middle division. Hassan got to the 2016 Games thanks to his participation in the final of the qualifying tournament in Venezuela, where he left no chance for the Ukrainian in the semifinals Denis Solonenko... The representative of Ukraine also took part in the Olympic Games, becoming the last one in 81 kg. Solonenko spent his season actively at the Ukrainian Atamans, where he defeated serious rivals. In Venezuela, Denis went through strong opponents in battles until he was caught by an experienced professional from Cameroon.

    The heavyweight division also gathered a very competitive company. Among the long-term leaders of the weight category, the Russians are distinguished Evgeniya Tishchenko, forever second Clemente Russo, Cuban Erislandy Savona and Kazakh Vasily Levit.

    Let's start to imagine best boxers heavyweight from an experienced 34 year old Italian Clemente Russo... For him, the 2016 Games will be the third in which he will finally try to win the coveted gold. In 2008 and 2012, the Italian stopped just one step away from the "gold", content with silver medals. Note that at the previous Olympic Games, Russo was stopped by a Ukrainian in the final. Alexander Usik, who will try to become the professional world champion in the fall.

    Also, a 25-year-old Russian will compete for the first line. Evgeny Tishchenko... The representative of the Russian national team is lanky and incredibly uncomfortable for his rivals. 196-cm Tishchenko is not the fastest, does not have incredible power, but skillfully uses dimensions. In a duel against a Ukrainian Georgy Manukyan at the 2015 World Championships in Doha, the Russian leveled the technique and skill of our athlete, thanks to anthropometry.

    Tishchenko after defeating Manukyan in Doha / AIBA

    A Cuban will definitely be present in the status of the leader of the boxing tournament Erislandy Savon... The silver medalist at the Doha World Championships is one of the most gifted boxers in the world. A technically perfect fighter is usually hampered by poor refereeing, but otherwise he is in the first positions. The Cuban is especially successful in the World Series of Boxing.

    You should not remove the Kazakh from the accounts Vasily Levit... This 28-year-old fighter has never won a competition. 1st category, but it is constantly adding. At the World Championships in the quarterfinals in a very equal duel, Levit lost to Manukyan and could have added more, but there was not enough time and good refereeing.

    +91 kg

    The 24-year-old Frenchman is the world champion in the royal weight category and the favorite of the 2016 Olympic Games Tony Yoka... In the world championship, he unexpectedly defeated all the main rivals. Yoki's victory in the heavyweight division looks understandable, since after the 2012 Games, the division has significantly weakened. Also, the medals will be claimed by the medalist of the World Championships German Eric Pfeiffer, bronze medalist of the last Olympic Games Kazakh Ivan Dychko and titled Briton Joseph joyce... All these boxers are quite old by the standards of amateurs, but in the category of defective personnel.

    Also, do not forget about the 29-year-old experienced Azerbaijani. Magomedrasule Mejidov who managed to take gold medals at the World Championships in 2011 and 2013. Majidov also performs at the semi-professional level, where he is one of the best heavyweight boxers of the WSB.

    The main rival of the British woman will be a Chinese woman Ren Cancan, who won all the world championships before London 2012, but failed to take gold in the main event. The defeat from Adams for the Chinese woman was painful and offensive, and in Rio she will definitely try to get revenge for the defeat.

    Tatiana Kob / FBU

In addition to boxing, Taylor is also a member of the Ireland national football team. The Irishwoman is definitely the most colorful participant in the boxing tournament.

Four years ago, she got the azoloto easily, as it happens in such “beginner” sports as women's boxing. And in 2015, the "junior" won gold at the World Championship and the Pan American Games.

    The main rival of the American should be the silver medalist of the 2015 World Cup 28-year-old netherlands Science Fontaine, who defeated all the strongest girls in 75 kg, except for the American.

    A tough and spectacular sport is about boxing. This is a single combat, where athletes perform in protective helmets and gloves, hitting each other on the permitted parts of the body. The fight is controlled by the judge, he is called the referee. To win, you need to knock out your opponent: knock him down so that he cannot get up for 10 seconds. If the opponent is injured so that he cannot continue the fight, this is called a technical knockout. If the rivals were still unable to knock out each other, the judges decide which of them won. The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are distinguished by the fact that for the first time ever, male boxers will compete without helmets. The women boxing will continue to fight in full protection.

    Boxing fans can immediately name the world boxing champions. But when it comes to Olympic champions, the list is noticeably reduced to names that can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

    Some athletes have become two and three times Olympic champions. They trained constantly, and they fully deserve the title of Olympic boxing champions.

    The list of Olympic boxing champions is quite extensive, but not all of the names from the list are heard by fans of professional boxing. We decided to correct this misunderstanding and tell you about the Olympic boxing champions.

    Two-time Olympic boxing champions

    The list, which includes two-time Olympic boxing champions, has not been replenished since 2012. The list of winners who have proved twice that they are the best in their sport at the Olympic Games in different years is as follows:

    • Oliver Kirk(USA) - 1904 (52kg), 1904 (56kg);
    • Jerzy Zdzislav Kulej(Poland) - 1964, 1968;
    • Boris Lagutin(USSR) - 1964 (71kg), 1968 (71kg), 1960 bronze;
    • Angelo Herrera Vera(Cuba) - 1976, 1980;
    • Hector Winent(Cuba) - 1992, 1996;
    • Ariel Hernandez(Cuba) 75kg - 1992, 1996;
    • Oleg Saitov(Russia) - 1996, 2000, bronze in Athens 2004;
    • Mario Kindelan(Cuba) - 2000, 2004;
    • Guillermo Rigondo(Cuba) - 2000, 2004;
    • Alexey Tishchenko(Russia) - 2004, 2008;
    • Zou Shimin(China) - 2008, 2012, bronze in Rio de Janeiro 2016;
    • Vasily Lomachenko(Ukraine) - 2008, 2012.

    One of the last Olympians in this sport was the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic champion in boxing, who was nicknamed in Ukraine a gold miner during the 2012 Summer Olympics.

    In 2008, at the Beijing Olympics, Vasily Lomachenko knocked out Frenchman Jelkir Kedafi, and in the final in the Olympic Games in London in 2012, the Ukrainian defeated Sun-Chul Khan from South Korea.

    Three-time Olympic boxing champions - who are they? Fans of this sport need to know at least their names, especially since they can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

    In the entire history of the Olympics, only three boxers have become three-time boxing champions. We will tell you about them in more detail.

    Hungarian athlete Laszlo Lapp is the first Olympic boxing champion to become a champion three times. He was the best middleweight boxer in the world from 1948 to 1964.

    Lapp took his first gold in 1948 at the Olympic Games in London in the weight up to 74 kilograms, defeating the British boxer John Wright.

    The second time Olympic boxing champion Laszlo Lapp won gold in 1952 at the Olympic Games in Helsinki, defeating the athlete from South Africa Teunis Van Schalkwik in the weight up to 71 kilograms.

    The Hungarian boxer's third victory was at the 1956 Olympics, which took place in Melbourne. Then Lapp defeated the future professional boxing champion - American Jose Torres.

    In addition to a successful boxing career, Laszlo Lapp has acted in films.

    MOSCOW, June 3. / Corr. TASS Igor Lazorin /. Leading professional boxers have no plans to compete in the 2016 Olympics even after the International Boxing Association (AIBA) officially allowed them to compete in the Games.

    Previously, according to the AIBA rules, which were introduced in 2013, professional boxers were eligible to participate in the Olympics, provided that they had less than 15 fights for which they received a fee, and also subject to the signing of a special short-term contract with the organization. The new rules will allow any professional boxer, regardless of age or experience, to take part in the Olympic Games.

    The official qualifying tournament for the pros for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro is scheduled for the period from 3 to 8 July in the Venezuelan city of Vargas.

    Vladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin will not go

    The 2004 Olympic champion, Russian Alexander Povetkin, abandoned this prospect and will prepare to return to the professional ring after the story with the discovery of the prohibited substance meldonium in his doping sample.

    Nor will the 1996 Olympic champion, Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko, who will have a rematch with Briton Tyson Fury on July 9, will not box in Brazil. The absence of Klitschko in the Ukrainian national team can be compensated for by the two-time Olympic champion and winner of the Val Barker Cup (prize to the most technical boxer of the Olympics) Vasily Lomachenko, who is in no way inferior in potential to the eminent compatriot.

    As TASS previously reported, the teams of Great Britain, the USA and Kazakhstan will refuse the services of professional boxers in favor of amateurs who have fought for participation in the Games for two years. It was also assumed that American Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino Manny Pacquiao could perform in Rio de Janeiro.

    The world champion in two versions, Russian Denis Lebedev, told TASS that he could, under certain conditions, take part in the selection for the Games, if this does not interfere with his career. The possibility of calling Lebedev into the team was confirmed Main coach Russian national team Alexander Lebzyak.

    Why aren't professionals hired?

    Leading federations refuse to invite professionals for one simple reason - many teams have already won all licenses and vacancies for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games have been closed.

    No one wants conflict situations between amateurs and professionals, as this can negatively affect the performance at the Games, as well as lower the authority of the national federation.

    The Ukrainian national team does not yet have an Olympic license at all, so negotiations on the participation of professional boxers are logical. The same applies to the Russian national team, which so far does not have licenses in all weight categories, but can win them at the qualifying tournament in Baku (will end on June 19). After him, it will become clear whether there will be pros in the Russian national team.

    Pros from Mexico, whose federation categorically prohibits such boxers from participating in amateur competitions, will not perform at the Games either. As the federation told TASS, such events can lead to risks and damage to health for amateur boxers.

    What's the bottom line?

    According to most federations, AIBA made the right decision by allowing professionals to participate in the Olympic Games. However, the decision was made at a time when the lineups of the teams are already practically formed, which does not allow the leaders of national organizations to make a choice and to rotate.

    As noted in the US Boxing Federation, AIBA's decision leads to the development of boxing and increases the entertainment of the Olympic boxing tournament.
