The history of the team dates back to 1946 when it was called Dynamo. Since 1948 the team bore the name "Oilman", and in 1958 it was renamed "Terek". In 2006, the team was named Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov. In June 2017, the club received a new name - "Akhmat".
For 46 years, from 1946 to 1991, the team participated in 36 seasons (1946, 1957-1991) of all-Union football competitions (championships) for teams of masters of various levels, with the exception of the Major League level tournaments.
