• Moscow City Duma. Grigory Morozov: If I begin to bend my fingers, they will immediately give

    16.09.2021

BC EvrAZ was based in Yekaterinburg and became a short part of the history of Sverdlovsk basketball. A short, but bright moments, history with big ambitions and plans that never came to fruition, a story that became on a par with other similar projects that were not implemented due to the loss of interest in them from the owners, who sooner or later realize that basketball in Russia it is not a source of income and it will take a long time to turn this game into a profitable business.

The history of the club begins in 2001. In the 00/01 season SKA-TTG unexpectedly won a ticket to the Korac Cup, and just a few days after this event, it was announced that the club's name was changed to EvrAz. This was due to the appearance of a new sponsor for the club. In fact, Alexander Venediktov, the owner of the "EvrAz group of companies", became the owner of the club. The participation of the Yekaterinburg team in the Korac Cup was also notable for the fact that the club was from Super League B, the second oldest division of the Russian championship. EvrAz became the first Russian club from the second division to play in European competition.

Before the start of the season, the backbone of the club was preserved, and Sergei Yezhov remained at the helm of the team, who was entrusted with the task of reaching Superleague A and a worthy performance in the Korac Cup. The club approached the first season in its new history thoroughly - the first pre-season training camp was held in the Czech Republic in sparring with local teams, then played two friendly matches with reigning champion country "Ural Great" upon returning home. The club from Yekaterinburg lost matches with the reigning champion with a total difference of 75 points. At the same time, the club was active in the transfer market - 24-year-old American Ben Eckols, a Texas University graduate, who was found in one of the Lebanese championship clubs, was signed. Eckols became the second legionnaire in the history of men's professional basketball in Yekaterinburg - an African American played in SKA-Ural 6 years earlier. Following Eckols, another American arrived in Yekaterinburg - Michael Gerald Cumberland. The 35-year-old player traded the Turkish championship for the Super League B. The Americans got from the ship to the ball - without a single training session, they managed to attend a reception with the governor together with the team. The reception was arranged before the start of the season and the club's European debut. The Yugoslav Slavisha Koprivica was also acquired.

The club started the season with an away defeat in the Super League. However, in the next matches, "EvrAz" rehabilitated itself in front of the fans, scoring two victories.

Strengthening of the squad continued after the start of the championship - Vladimir Koval arrived from Dnepropetrovsk, who managed to join the team for the second match, Sergey Antipov came from Tula, Dmitry Cheremnykh came from Perm, and Cheremnykh managed to play for the Ural Great farm club in the new season , and therefore could speak for new club only in the Korac Cup - these were the regulations of the championship.

The debut match in the Korac Cup was played by EvrAz in the Uralmash sports complex. It is noteworthy that the women's basketball club, following the results of the previous season, also received the right to participate in European competitions, but refused to participate, explaining that there was nowhere to play. The debut match in the Korac Cup "EvrAz" played on the home court against the Turkish "Fenerbahce", which won with a difference of 6 points in front of a full hall. In the return match, the Turks were stronger, winning by 1 point, but on aggregate, EvrAz made it to the group stage. The first successes were inspired by the club's management, which set the team the task of reaching the quarterfinals of the Korac Cup. The club's coach Sergei Yezhov considered this task quite solvable. In the group "EvrAz" I got to the Slovenian, Polish and Czech teams. After the first match in the European tournament, Ben Ekols left the club, instead of whom his peer, Turkish citizen Orhan Güler, was signed. Following this news, good news came from the RFB: from December 1, Dmitry Cheremnykh received permission to play for the club in the Russian championship.

The debut match in the group stage was lost to the Polish "Prokom", and after the defeat from the Slovenes (with a difference of more than 30 points) the second American went home. Yezhov explained this by the fact that the Americans did not live up to their hopes and in fact turned out to be weaker than the Russian players. In the same game with the Slovenes, Yezhov had a conflict with Guler - in the 9th minute of the match, the coach put the Turk on the bench, to which he was offended and refused to go to the court again at the coach's request.

In general, the debut in European competitions turned out to be a failure: the team never won a single victory in the matches. group tournament.

The Super League B season turned out to be successful - the team took the final 2nd place. True, only the first team was supposed to enter Superleague A, but Irkutsk Shakhtar, who played in Superleague A, ceased to exist due to financial difficulties and EvrAz was offered to take its place, which agreed and additionally concluded an “adaptation” agreement with the RBF , giving the club immunity from relegation for two years.

Of the legionnaires in Division B, Krapivica played the most - 28 matches out of 48, Yugoslav's average performance was 12 points, to which he added 6 rebounds per match. Orhan had the best average performance - 13.2 points per game, but he played only 13 matches for EvrAz in Super League B.

Before the new season, Boris Sokolovsky replaced Yezhov on the coaching bridge, the club had to make its debut in the FIBA Champions Cup - the RBF, despite the club's disastrous performance in the Korac Cup, put EurAz in the application for participation in the preliminary round of the FIBA Champions Cup. As a result, the club began its participation in the Eurotournament from the group stage, taking the place of Lokomotiv from Mineralnye Vody, which refused to participate in the tournament for technical reasons (the absence of a hall that meets the FIBA requirements). The rivals in the group were the Polish "Anvil Wloclawek", the Estonian "Rock Tartu", the Danish BC "Copenhagen" and the Ukrainian MBK "Odessa".

In the new season, the club still made a bet on Russian players - there were only two legionnaires in the team - Yugoslav Prekovic and Lithuanian Sirvidis, the average age of the team was 25.2 years, the youngest was 18-year-old Penkin, the oldest - 31-year-old Igor Grachev.

The team played in the Champions Cup group stage in a bitter struggle, but the Yekaterinburg players left the site as winners only three times - in the home match with Copenhagen and in both matches with Tartu. As a result, the team took 4 out of 5 places and did not make it to the playoffs, although there were chances for this until the last round.

The first season in Super League A was the best for the club, which won 8 wins in 18 matches and finished 5th in the regular season. 5th place brought the team to the playoffs with Khimki, who took 4th place. In a series of up to three wins, EvrAz lost to Khimki without winning a single match and took the final 5th place.

The year was successful and memorable for the fans - the sports palace was packed to capacity at home games, the city received the right to host the final of the four Russian Cup, in which CSKA played, UNICS, who knocked out EvrAz in the quarterfinals, Ural Great and Khimki. As part of the final four, spectators witnessed a top-throw competition, a three-point throw competition and the first support group competition in the history of Russian basketball.

Having successfully finished the season, the club entered the second stage of its history - the stage of decline and financial problems.

Alarming calls began to ring towards the end of the 02/03 season: Alexander Venediktov complained about the lack of funds, lack of support from regional authorities and complained that sports clubs in our country are not profitable.

Despite these statements by the club's management, in November the famous politician Pavel Borodin was appointed president, who in the end never attended a single home match of his charges.

Only 6 people from last year's squad remained in the team - Alexey Lobanov, Andrey Penkin, Anatoly Sergienko, Alexey Komarov, Andrey Oveshkov and Dmitry Cheremnykh. 4 legionnaires came to the club in the offseason - Latvian Bagatskis (36 years old), Slovak Melush (31 years old), Croat Tarle (31 years old) and American Young (24 years old), during the season Young and Melush left the team. Alexander Zryadnikov replaced Sokolovsky as head coach. Payments in full in accordance with the contract during the season were provided only to Bagatskis and Tarle, Russian players did not receive money regularly and in full. On the court, these two legionnaires were key figures, so losing them was tantamount to the complete collapse of the team.

Despite all the difficulties, which the club representatives openly announced in the media more and more often, the team was again announced to participate in the FIBA Champions Cup. The Uralmash Sports Palace passed the European certification more and more every year, and before the new season there was talk that EvrAz would play in Chelyabinsk or Nizhny Tagil, but all this remained at the level of conversations, exactly like statements about plans to build their own arena.

The rivals in the group in the FIBA Champions Cup for the Yekaterinburg club were the Ukrainian "Chemist", the Lithuanian "Neptunas" and the Estonian "Tartu". Having won 2 out of 6 matches (at home at Neptunas and Tartu), the Yekaterinburg team is on the last line in the group. Despite the results, there was an equal struggle with all the teams, and the spectators continued to arrange sold out at the team's home matches - the first two matches gathered 3 thousand people each, the third, which was no longer decisive, was attended by 2 thousand. Against the background of very mediocre numbers of attendance of the group stage of the tournament as a whole (700-1000), these numbers clearly stood out.

The club began its season in the Super League with a match with CSKA, in which it suffered a crushing defeat: 49: 107! They did not have time to recover from such a sensitive defeat, as they received another blow in front of their fans: in the next round, the Kazan team came to visit and defeated the hosts with a score of 59: 106! By the third match, the Yekaterinburg team gathered their will into a fist and fought Avtodor in Saratov, losing 86:88. In transit through Samara (defeat 59:77) EvrAz went home to receive Ural Great. The match ended in defeat (82: 104) and two scandals at once: football fans, upset by the departure of FC Ural to the second league, smashed the windows of the buses of Perm fans. And after the match, Yekaterinburg residents filed a protest in the RBF - during the match, Sergei Belov released 4 legionnaires onto the pitch, thereby violating the rules. The club's management wanted to achieve a technical defeat for the Permians, although according to the current regulations this was punishable only by a technical foul, but a week later, without giving any reasons, the Yekaterinburg team withdrew the protest.

After 9 matches, the club had 9 defeats, the club won its first victory only in December - in a match against Arsenal Tula. The club also won the second, final, victory at home, over a neighbor in the final standings- St. Petersburg "Spartak". The result of such a disastrous season - the last, 13th place in the standings, 2 wins in 18 matches, the average difference between goals scored and conceded is 75-95, and only the withdrawal from the tournament due to financial problems of Tula Arsenal allowed the club to remain in the rank of the strongest for the next season.

Before the 04/05 season, it was not possible to save the squad: all the players fled "to earn money", only Tarle and Lobanov remained from last year's squad. Despite the financial problems that have already become an integral part of the club, funds were found to staff the roster, as well as for three legionnaires - Croat Zemlich, Brazilian Filho and American Ray Hartson. All 32 games in the season for the club were played only by Lobanov, three more - Zemlich, Hertson and Osipov - played 30 matches each. The Brazilian left the team in the middle of the season, "not living up to expectations" (although, given his excellent statistics, it is likely that Filho left the team due to financial problems). At the helm of the team, changes also took place - Zryadnikov was replaced by Sergei Zozulin.

The club started the season with a home victory over the Novosibirsk Lokomotiv, but after that a series of defeats followed, the logical outcome of which was the dismissal at the end of the year from the post of head coach Zozulin. Instead of Zozulin, Ukrainian Andrey Podkovyrov was appointed head coach, whose main task was to create a team capable of fighting for medals in two or three years. But not everything was so bad - in the Russian Cup, the club again reached the quarterfinals, knocking out last year's Ural Great Cup winner in 1/8; in the FIBA Champions Cup, for the first time, they managed to leave the group and reach the final four of the Northern Conference.

In the FIBA Champions Cup, EvrAz's rivals were Tartu, Dnipro and Dynamo Moscow. Having won both matches over Dnipro and at home over Tartu, the club took second place in the group and advanced to the playoffs. True, the group stage was not without failures characteristic of the club for the last two years - the defeat on the road to Dynamo with a score of 56: 103 in the penultimate match in the group kept the intrigue for the last round for EvrAz and Tartu. The group stage this year attracted fewer spectators - the club played three games in a row at home within the framework of the tournament, the first two had 1500, the last 2000. In the finals, the club got to the rivals MBK "Odessa". A series of two matches ended with home victories for the teams, however, on aggregate, EvrAz reached the final four. Failures in the domestic arena reduced interest in basketball - only a thousand spectators came to the match against Odessa. In the semifinals of the "final four" of the Northern Conference, held in Moscow, the rivals of Yekaterinburg once again became Dynamo Moscow. It should be noted that three out of four teams of this mini-tournament were Russian - the third team was Lokomotiv Rostov. In ½ "Dynamo" with a score of 100: 79 turned out to be stronger. In the consolation match, "EvrAz" was to meet with "Shaulai" - but this meeting was also lost by Yekaterinburg (71:86)

In Super League A, the team won only 3 victories in 21 matches and finished 13th for the second year in a row.

After the end of the season, Venediktov continued to talk about plans for the next season for medals and long-term prospects, but the two main sponsors withdrew from the project, explaining that it was not possible to provide adequate funding for the club (it was necessary to provide a minimum budget of 4 million euros for the next season). The president of the club Borodin and the chairman of the board of trustees of the Basketball of the Urals Foundation, Yuri Skuratov, turned to the governor for help, but no support was provided to them. After that, Alexander Venediktov tried to sell the club, putting it up for auction, but not a single potential buyer showed up. As a result, BC "EvrAz" was withdrawn from participation in Superleague A, and due to the lack of buyers, it was declared bankrupt and dismissed. In parallel with these events, the process of creating a new professional basketball team was going on in Yekaterinburg, which was announced a year later in Superleague B - BC "Ural" still exists today, and continues to delight the audience, including performances on the international arena, although it also plays in the second seniority of the Russian division.

Grigory Morozov: If I begin to bend my fingers, they will immediately give

Dynamo defender who showed himself brightly - about how he learned to dance and became a football player.

Dynamo's 21-year-old defender Grigory Morozov played four games for Dynamo's base, scored two goals and showed himself in general. The club hastened to sign a long-term contract with Morozov.

    "THOUGHT WHY THIS IS ALL?"

After signing a contract with Dynamo, in an interview with club TV they said that this is one of the happiest days in life. What other happy days are you remembering?

Probably when I was admitted to the Konoplev Academy. It was a big deal for me. And when I got to Dynamo. That's why I walked for a long time, I had to go through a lot. Now I have a long-term contract ...

    - What did you have to go through?

Probably the most difficult thing is the injury and more than one operation on the left leg. All sorts of thoughts visited, up to the point why all this is necessary? Everything was hard, really. Not so much physically as emotionally. When you watch the guys run, but you don't ... At the viewing at Wings of the Soviets this winter, they told me that I was not suitable. Then I was ready to leave the Dynamo double even to the second league. I am very glad that in the end everything happened like this. Andrey Kobelev began to trust us, young people. Huge gratitude to him.

    - Before Kobelev there were Petrescu and Cherchesov. But with them, you only trained with the main one.

Well, yes. Under Petrescu I was only 18. Then I got injured and after that I mostly trained with a double. Cherchesov also allowed me to train with the base, but as it got to the official matches, I was pushed into the background. Probably, this attitude towards me also tempered. Life goes on.

And it's not bad for you. Zabilize Loko, Ural, now the contract has been re-signed. But at the same time, answering the question of whether your head will spin after this, firmly say no and note that you have not such an upbringing. What is it?

My parents never spoiled me. My father grew up in a poor family and tried to educate me so that I would not be spoiled. He taught that you need to achieve everything yourself. Of course, I will not behave differently, because the leader is always the example - the father.

    - Although there are many temptations, especially after the signing of a new contract.

What temptations? Nothing has changed dramatically. There will simply be more opportunities to help parents and sisters.

    - You have a big family?

Yes, two older sisters, two nephews - a boy and a girl.

    - Everyone lives in Izhevsk, where is the geek from?

Yes, the older sister got married and gave birth to two children. The youngest is two years older than me. She studies and works. Things are good.

    - How do they meet your successes?

Constantly worried, watching. I always dreamed that my family would watch me on TV. When I just started playing for the base, my parents had crazy emotions. And I am grateful to them that they did not interfere with me when I decided to go to football. Well, and for them I remain the best son and the best brother.

“LEFT TURNS. BUT RIGHT HAPPY "

    - What place on the field is more comfortable for you? Is this the left or right edge of the defense?

It's more convenient to play on the right, because I'm right-handed. But the coaches noticed that I played well with the left, too, so they put on the left flank. But on the right, everything is more familiar to me. I always played there. But when he came to Dynamo, he started playing on the left. It seems to be obtained.

    - They say Zhirkov can beat Zenit. If so, you become a complete replacement on the left.

Popovodu transition - not a question for me. But if I have to, I'm ready.

You say that you started playing thanks to Andrey Kobelev. And the limit? Some believe that the limit creates greenhouse conditions for Russian footballers.

Palco two ends. Always ready to compete with good players. When I came to Dynamo, there were a lot of players in the team, whom you could look up to and watch how they train and play. And you yourself add, training next to them. And when you are 20-21 years old, at any limit you have to compete for real. They say that the limit is an artificial limitation ... After all, there are coaches who bring players and put them undeservedly. I don’t like it. The strongest must play, not the one who was brought.

    - Have you seen Pavel Pogrebnyak, who recently signed a contract with Dynamo?

Until the last one did not know that this transition could take place, although he also signed a contract at the club. And Pavel is a great player, this is the strengthening of the team.

    "FIRST I WAS DANCING ..."

    - You yourself ended up in Dynamo thanks to your uncle. What is it like?

When you look at your surroundings, you absorb something. And my uncle was a policeman in the past. He was always worried about Dynamo, I don’t know from what age. It passed on to me. When the time came to choose where to go, he immediately said that it would be Dynamo. I originally had a six-month lease here, a defective contract. But I even agreed to that. I felt that I could play here. When you sympathize with something, it works better.

    - Is your uncle happy now, how are the sisters with their parents?

Of course! I constantly call him. Of course, it is also his merit that everything turned out to be so. He probably watches Dynamo matches with his friends over a glass of beer, where I play now. Where Kobelev, Semshov and many other players, about whom he told me, played.

    - I read in your interview with the club site that your father wanted you to become a dancer. To be honest, unexpected.

There’s a story. By the way, we recently discussed this topic with my father. And he put everything on the shelves for me. In Izhevsk it was not clear where the road would take me. I always talked with older guys. And to this day, by the way. It's more comfortable for me. And the yard life was, and all sorts of bulls had to smoke. My father noticed me at this business several times. Told me that he wanted to take me as far away from this as possible. I still listened to him, first of all. He took me to the dance so that I could do business. There was no task to make me a dancer. Was a task to fill mine somehow free time.

    - Is it ballroom dancing?

Yes, yes, they danced in pairs. And cha-cha-cha, and rumba. But dances were not good for me. I understood this, and the teacher. I haven't heard the music. But now I'm better off with that.

    - How were you released? My little sister goes to ballroom dancing. There boys are worth their weight in gold.

Yes? - Grigory smiles. - Maybe times have changed? They let me go quietly.

    - But there is something left after classes? Can you show the class?

We were a friend recently in a restaurant, and then we walked in Catherine Park, where grandparents danced. And I asked my friend if we could do it like this, and we agreed that it would.

    - Did you dance?

No, we just decided we could do the same.

    - But you still do not wait for retirement age. We must take advantage of the moment.

I think so. We need to improve our skills a little. And after celebrating the goal, you can also dance something.

    - That would be cool in general, especially since there are goals.

Well, they don't come easy to be honest.

    - You talk about ballroom dances, walks in the park. Is such a vacation better for you than a trip to a nightclub?

There should be a measure. This feeling was taught by my father. We are people just like many. We can go to the park, to the restaurant, to the theater, and to the club. If you have two or three days off, why not? You just need to know when to return home.

Igor Denisov. There is nothing to think about.

    - Why he?

Professional inside and out. How he prepares for matches, how he recovers ... There are many things to learn from him. I asked Igor for advice more than once, because he won a lot. Of course, he always answers. He's a great guy in general. And for the youth of the mountain, always. This is correct, I think.

    - How did you perceive the situation when he was transferred to the double for disagreements with Cherchesov?

This is their relationship with the coach. But even in the double, he remained a master. Denisov understood what he wanted, understood that he could play and he had to keep himself in shape.

    - And Kokorin?

Kokorin is a very strong player that Dynamo needs. The game is built on it. It's hard without him. The fact that he was removed in the game against Terek ... After that, the team showed character. We did not fall apart, but played for each other, which means that we have character. As for rumors of Kokorin leaving, we all want him to stay. I think he will continue to play for Dynamo.

    - What is the peculiarity of the current Dynamo, from where many players have left and can still leave the team?

Understanding that there is nowhere to retreat, that Moscow is behind. We have a fusion of youth and experience.

    - And the opportunity to show yourself young, the opportunity to sign a new contract.

What about the contract? Now fold your arms? The World Championship is on the nose. And we all want to play there. Maybe we can get at least on the extended list to begin with.

    - Yes, this is an important point.

I have a dream to play at the World Cup. As well as bringing your parents to the Dynamo match. I hope this will happen soon. And the fact that I went from the yard to the main team of Dynamo is a great incentive for many guys. But this is not a reason for me to bend my fingers. And then I'll get it right away. But at the same time, I myself cannot imagine such a situation. I say: my father did not raise me like that.

Grigory Morozov: "Parents are still arguing over which of them gave me to football"

Portrait of a young football player who quickly burst into the base of Dynamo

Morozov became one of the discoveries of the new season. A couple of months ago, few people knew about this guy. Now he plays consistently in the defense of Dynamo, whose general sponsor is VTB Bank. The site's correspondent met with the 21-year-old footballer, who told how his life had changed in a few months.

Morozov became famous after scoring against Lokomotiv in his debut match. Before that game, the young defender was very worried. He says he could not even sleep on the night before the meeting in Cherkizovo. The coaches told Morozov about his debut at the last moment, but the player himself understood everything.

“They didn't say anything to me, but I felt from training that I was being played in the first team. I later talked with Uncle Roma Berezovsky (goalkeeper coach. - Approx. site)... He said: “We didn't want to disturb you ahead of time,” Morozov recalls.

After the goal against Lokomotiv, the defender began to slap himself in the face. It was hard for him to believe what was happening. Until recently, he was ready to go to the second league, and now - his debut in a team like Dynamo. Moreover, he scores the ball, which is a rarity even for an experienced defender. It is not surprising that Morozov refused to believe what was happening. Just one successful match, and the attention to the player has increased many times over.

“Fans in social networks began to send messages, subscribe to me. And there was also media attention. I understand that interviews are a part of a football player's life. I don't feel any pressure. And when fans meet at the stadium and say: let's take a picture, it's a novelty for me. I am the same as everyone else. Just a guy starting to play football, and already so much attention. Recently, friends approached my father at the market: “Do you remember, we gave a stroller for my son. Let's write "Dynamo" on it, - Morozov is surprised.

It is curious that Morozov came close to leaving Dynamo several times. He had options to continue his career in Khimki and Voronezh. And before the start of the season, he was personally interested in the defender Main coach"Kuban" Dmitry Khokhlov. As a result, Morozov doubted to the last, but decided to stay in Moscow. But not long before that he was not taken seriously:

“In January I came to the Samara Krylya Sovetov for a screening. Trained with the team. As a result, they didn’t take me. Then I found out that I was not originally counted on. They took it for the quantity - it was just necessary to apply for someone to the tournament. I was like a piece that lies on the lawn during training, ”says Morozov.

The example of this defender has become a reference point for many. People even began to turn to Morozov with requests to attach their son to football. According to the player, such appeals put him into a stupor. After all, often parents want to see their son in football more than he himself. Especially after they find out that the best footballers in Russia receive several million euros a year. It is clear that Morozov is still far from the highest paid player on the team, but already at the age of 21 he knows what is worth spending money on.

"I have a big family. It is always a pleasure for me to help parents financially. Moreover, in small towns the salary is small. My parents don't work - it's hard to find a job in Izhevsk. Friends are talking about this, too, ”Morozov regrets.

Gregory has two older sisters, two nephews - a boy and a girl

Mom and dad are still arguing about whose original idea was to give their son to football. The mother claims that she found an ad in a regular school. Dad says that the initiative came from him. It has not been possible to establish the truth to this day. There are similar controversies about physique:

“Dad says I have his legs. Mom replies: "Look, it was clearly transmitted from me - they look like my legs." My parents planned to send me to the Konoplev Academy when I turned 14. But I was invited there when I was 10, ”says Morozov.

At first, Morozov's parents did not want to let their son go to the football academy, which is located in Togliatti, 600 kilometers from Izhevsk. However, the father, seeing the zeal of young Grisha, decided: let him go. Why was Morozov invited there? To this he himself replied:

“We have a good school in Izhevsk, and we were invited to a tournament in Togliatti. There I was recognized as the best midfielder. Me and two other guys were offered to stay at the Konoplev Academy. At that moment, tears came from my eyes, honestly! It was my dream. Mom was very worried. Daddy too. He told the coaches: "If your son does not fit by football standards, then kick him out immediately - we are always waiting for him at home." I quickly drove to Izhevsk for my things and stayed at the Togliatti Academy for 8 years, ”Morozov shares his recollections.

It was received by Veronica Tomilina, a teacher at school No. 1861. She created scripts for English lessons for the sixth grade. Today, more than 360 schools in the capital are taught by teachers who have received a grant from the Mayor of Moscow for their contribution to the development of MES.

At the end of last year, newspapers reported: “The USSR State Prize has been awarded to a group of Leningrad civil engineers. They were awarded for the creation of membrane coatings for large-span buildings and structures. " The first in the list of laureates was named the chief specialist of the Leningrad Zonal Research and Design Institute for Standard and Experimental Design of Residential and Public Buildings Aleksey Petrovich Morozov.

The design style of engineer Morozov is well known not only in Leningrad, Moscow and other cities of our country, but also far beyond its borders. A world-renowned specialist, he devoted his life to the development of spatial structures, membrane coatings, which brought him well-deserved fame. But there were times when the name of Alexei Morozov was famous for completely different reasons ...

Let's open the guide "Masters of Sports and Records", published in 1935. Among the participants in the national tennis championship, we will immediately meet the name of Morozov. Having turned over a few pages, we will stumble upon the composition of the Leningrad national basketball team, the champion of the USSR in 1934. And here, too, A. Morozov appears. Finally, here is the list of basketball players elected to the symbolic national teams of the country. The second team included master of sports A. Morozov. And everywhere we are talking about the same person - Alexei Petrovich Morozov.

In his life, the creative obsession of the civil engineer and the love of sports are closely intertwined. Is it not the result of the combination of these two passions that the team, led by Morozov, created membrane floors over the largest sports facilities in the country.

It all started in 1925 at the stadium near the Engineering Castle, where now there is a kindergarten, - recalls Aleksey Petrovich, - it was there that I, an 18-year-old boy, and turned from an athlete into a basketball player. Two years later I got into the second national team of Leningrad, two years later - into the first ... And then I got carried away with tennis. He was considered the fifth racket of Leningrad, and this was quite honorable, because at that time the strongest tennis players of the country stood in the first four places - Eduard Negrebetsky, Vyacheslav Multino, Evgeny Kudryavtsev, Archil Mdivani.

It turned out to be a difficult task to manage to train, play and study at the Civil Engineering Institute. But no matter how hard science was sometimes given, Morozov did not give up any of his hobbies.

In April 1934 in Kiev, at the All-Union Basketball Festival, the Leningrad national team passed the preliminary competitions perfectly. Confident victories over the teams of Tiflis - 53:23, Kiev - 36:20, Rostov-on-Don - 75:18 opened her way to the final of the national championship, where Leningraders met with eternal rivals - Muscovites. The Leningrad national team entered the final match with Nikolai Kuznetsov, Georgy Tishchinsky, Anatoly Krasovsky, Fedor Gostilov, Alexei Morozov.

The first half, Alexey Petrovich testifies, ended in a draw - 14:14. At the last minute of the game, the Muscovites took the lead, but two throws from our center Kuznetsov brought us victory - 35:32. Everyone played great then - the powerful Nikolai Kuznetsov, and the balanced, staunch Fedor Gostilov, and the agile, technical Anatoly Krasovsky, the youngest in the team, and our tallest player (195 cm), Pavel Osipov, who came on as a substitute. But, of course, the best among us was Georgy Tishchinsky - a real virtuoso, who had no equal in talent in those years. Alas, like Krasovsky, Kuznetsov, Osipov, and many other athletes, Georgy Tishchinsky did not return from the war ...

Soon after winning the national championship, Morozov had to defend his diploma. And a few months later, his biography of an engineer began.

A rich, creative life full of creative work, a favorite thing - spatial constructions that completely occupied his imagination, and sports. It seemed that everything will be so, dreams will come true one after another. But the war interrupted them.

Civil engineer Morozov, like many other Leningraders, began to build fortifications. Control points were erected on the outskirts of the city, at the corners of the streets, where the enemy was not supposed to pass. Then I had to deal with the dismantling of wooden houses - the city needed fuel. Death lay in wait everywhere - on the deserted, constantly shelled streets, where severe frost ruled, on the stairs, in an unheated apartment ... The terrible blockade winter of 1941-1942, chronic hunger, dead windows of houses, motionless trams ... All this was overcome by a powerful organism athlete. Although you thought about sports during these difficult days? But it turned out that the basketball players did not forget about their favorite game.

Here we will break the sequence of the narrative and talk about another hobby of Alexei Petrovich Morozov - history. In his apartment, most of the walls are occupied by bookshelves, on which heavy tomes of genealogical research and volumes of rare historical journals coexist with literature on construction and architecture. In some places - the sayings of great people written out in whimsical ligature. Half-jokingly, half-seriously, the amateur historian Morozov, according to all the rules of heraldry, made a coat of arms for himself. Above the shield containing various symbols, the motto is: "Do what you must do, no matter what happens." There are no jokes here - Alexey Petrovich adhered to this rule all his life. According to this motto, Morozov and his basketball friends acted in the difficult blockade in the spring of 1942.

Many players of the pre-war Leningrad national team then worked at the Karl Liebknecht plant.

They, who survived the most terrible days, had the idea to revive basketball, to start training again. Today it is not easy to imagine - extremely exhausted by hunger and hard work, people decided to resurrect their favorite game. But basketball needed a gym.

A group of enthusiasts went around more than one room of the besieged city. finally stopping at the Palace of Culture named after the First Five-Year Plan. It was closed and boarded up, but soon basketballs rattled in its small, 18-meter hall. However, for exhausted people this hall looked gigantic too ...

At first, the ball seemed "alien" to us, - recalls Morozov, - we couldn't get into the basket. But gradually we managed to somehow recover our strength, regain forgotten skills. By the summer they went out to the open areas, and in August 1942 a real basketball tournament took place. It took place at the V.I.Lenin stadium and four teams took part in it. Three of them were "military" - they represented the 36th division, or "part of General Bystrov," as it was then called, air defense units and a naval crew. The fourth was the team of the Karl Liebknecht plant.

It was a blitz tournament. We played for 10 minutes at a time, and before the start, in order to play the field, we took free throws. All matches were judged by the referee of the All-Union category Vladimir Semyonov. There were also spectators who were not scared off even by the shelling - the Leningraders had time to get used to it. And we didn't stop the games. At the same time, they also tried to ensure that no one was injured. It was necessary to take care of each other. after all, everyone had to fight, work, live ...

This unforgettable basketball tournament was won by all its participants. It was a moral victory for the brave athletes over the enemy. evidence of the civic courage of people who once again proved that Leningrad is alive and will not surrender.

The blockade basketball of Leningrad, revived in 1942, was gaining strength. This is what the "Sports Bulletin of the Basketball Section at the Leningrad Committee physical culture", Of which A.P. Morozov was the executive editor:" In the city championship held in the summer of 1943 (where 6 men's and 3 women's teams took part), 96 percent of the games were held during air raid and shelling, but there was not a single absence of teams .. . "

In the summer of 1944, the Leningrad "Zenith" headed by its captain Alexei Morozov went to Tbilisi for the USSR championship. The next national championship, also held in the capital of Georgia, was the last performance of 38-year-old Alexei Petrovich in big basketball. And Morozov continued to go to the tennis court until he was 50 years old.

Now almost all of his time was devoted to the embodiment of the dreams of youth - spatial constructions. Alexey Petrovich erected them not only over sports facilities, among his creations are typical industrial large-span buildings and metro stations, a shopping center in Chelyabinsk and a showroom of a Leningrad studio, a customs building near the Soviet-Finnish border and a bus depot in Leningrad. The range, as we can see, is wide enough. But the honorary builder A.P. Morozov considers sports facilities to be the main milestones of his many years of design activity. The reinforced-cement roof of a swimming pool in Leningrad, a suspended cable-stayed ceiling of the Leningrad Sports Palace "Yubileiny" (for which Alexei Petrovich was awarded his first State Prize in 1969), similar coverings over sports palaces in Berlin and another German city, Suhl, Olympic facilities in Moscow .. Do not list everything. Although only the overlap of the cycle track in Krylatskoye and the Olympic Sports Palace, where the ideas of Leningraders were used, would deserve a separate story. But we will dwell in more detail on another creation of Alexei Petrovich - the V.I.Lenin Sports and Concert Complex in Leningrad.

The Leningrad Sports and Concert Complex named after V.I.Lenin, accommodating 25 thousand spectators, was for the first time in the world covered with a steel membrane. The diameter of this hanging shell is 160 meters, the area is 20,000 sq. meters. It is made of stressed steel strips, which are only 6 millimeters thick. Attached at 112 points to the support ring, the membrane securely bridges the huge structure. And everyone who has visited these two miraculous palaces of Leningrad can judge about its beauty, as well as about the beauty of the aerial structure of the cable-stayed ceiling of the Yubileiny.

In November of this year, Alexei Petrovich Morozov will turn 80 years old. He came to this date, preserving not only a sporty bearing - engineer Morozov continues to dream of developing the idea of spatial structures.

By the end of this century, he says. - humanity will learn to block spans of 500-600 meters. Well, today ... Today we are ready to block, for example, the famous Maracanã stadium - after all, the largest sports facility in the world has not yet been built.
