Eight teams will traditionally take part in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia. These are the winners of six continental championships, the world champion and the national team of the host country. At the moment, four participants of the tournament are known - the Russian team, the world champions from Germany, the winner of the Asia Cup 2015, the Australian national team and the recent champions of South America from Chile.
In the next year and a half, four more participants will be determined. The CONCACAF Gold Cup will end on July 26 in the USA. The national teams of Mexico and Jamaica will play in the final of the tournament. To determine the participant of the 2017 Confederations Cup according to the regulations, the winner of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup will play an additional match with the Americans, who won this trophy two years ago.
The winner of the ticket from Europe will be determined on July 10, 2016, when the final of the European championship will be played in France. If the national teams of Germany or Russia, who have already received the right to play in the Confederations Cup, win, the finalist of the European Championship will play in Russia in 2017.
Finally, in November 2016, the winner of the Ocean Nations Cup will be determined, and in January 2017 - the African champion, who will also receive tickets to the 2017 Confederations Cup.
The tournament will take place from June 17 to July 2 in four Russian cities - Kazan, Sochi, Moscow (at the Otkrytie-Arena stadium) and St. Petersburg. In the group stage, each team will play three matches.
The new "Zenit-Arena" of St. Petersburg will become the main stadium of the tournament, the opening match and the final will be held there, the semifinals will take place in Sochi and Kazan, and the match for the third place will take place in Moscow.
The draw for the group round of the Confederation Cup will take place at the end of 2016 in Kazan.
