Dash of the Bengal Tigress. The winning double of Mamun and Kudryavtseva
The first victory of Margarita Mamun in the individual all-around came at the Olympics in Brazil. Yana Kudryavtseva dropped her mace and was left with the silver.

    Someone had to lose ...

All four years of the Olympic cycle, Russian gymnasts Yana Kudryavtseva and Margarita Mamun trained and performed side by side. For two, they won almost three dozen world championship awards and were preparing to win gold and silver medals at the Olympic Games. The goal was achieved, but the result of the competition still turned out to be somewhat unexpected for fans of female gymnasts.

For four years, Kudryavtseva performed better in the individual all-around. Margarita has never won serious international competitions in this discipline, and Yana had four victories in a row. But already following the results of the qualification in Rio de Janeiro, it became clear: Mamun was not going to give up without a fight - at the Olympics she was going to compete with her friend for the gold medal of the competition.
At the end of the first day of the competition, Margarita became the first, and everyone froze in anticipation of a sharp struggle of the Russians.

When the final began, there was no free space in the stands: thousands of fans came to enjoy the beauty and grace of female gymnasts. And Russian spectators came to celebrate the victory. The first two objects - the hoop and the ball - showed that there will be no equal to Margarita and Yana in this final: four marks for 19 points out of four made them unattainable for competitors. There remained a battle of friends for gold. Yana, a three-time world champion in the all-around, allowed a moment's relaxation and dropped her mace. Many finalists can only dream of an estimate of 17.883, but Kudryavtseva almost cried, as she realized that she had missed the chance for gold.

Margarita, who performed under the first number, had to not flinch in the exercise with the ribbon in order to win. She understood: victory at the Olympic Games is close, worried, tuned in for a long time and tensely, and in the end she did everything brilliantly. The judges rated Margarita's performance at 19.233 points, and the Russian woman became the Olympic champion, without waiting for the performances of her rivals. Even theoretically, no one could catch up with Mamun. She won the all-around for the first time, and did it at the Olympics!

Julia Barsukova, Alina Kabaeva, Evgenia Kanaeva, and now Margarita Mamun - these are a number of our glorious Olympic champions who do not give away to anyone Olympic victory for 16 years in a row ... And Yana Kudryavtseva five minutes later pulled herself together, performed brilliantly with the ribbon, securing silver, and then gave free rein to emotions. Both of our girls were worthy of gold, but today one of them had to lose.

    Bengal Tigress on the hunt

Not all fans who were worried about Margarita today know where she got her colorful appearance, with an oriental bias. And the chest opens simply. The gymnast's father is from Bangladesh. Arriving to study in Russia, he met his love here, and the future champion was born. As a child, Margarita more than once visited relatives in the Asian republic, studied Bengali and once even played for the Bangladesh national team at a tournament, going down in history as the only gymnast-artist in the country. In 2010, Margarita was offered to compete at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, but she chose a more difficult path and remained in the Russian national team. And, as it turned out today, she was one hundred percent right.

Spectators often note Margarita's special expression during performances. This largely explains the nickname Bengal Tigress, which Irina Viner named her ward. However, few people know that off the mat, the gymnast is very calm and modest. Moreover, the vivid emotions, which have become the hallmark of the athlete, were hardly brought up by the coaches in Margarita. Amina Zaripova and Irina Viner had to work pretty hard, because the girl began to practice rhythmic gymnastics at the age of seven, while usually they come to this sport at three or four years old. However, talent and talent to break through obstacles.

Margarita publicly declared herself in the current Olympic cycle when Evgenia Kanaeva announced her retirement. But "number one" Mamun, frankly, has never been. Yes, she won four world championships in exercises with individual objects, and in 2014 and 2015 she took gold medals in the team, but her friend Yana Kudryavtseva performed stronger and more stable in the all-around. When Margarita was asked a year before the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro if she would agree to a guaranteed silver award if Yana took gold, she replied modestly and evasively: "Getting to the Olympics is worth it. Any medal from there is a success." But the athlete must have thought of gold.

When the first number becomes the second

Outside of competition, Margarita and Yana are not rivals. On the contrary, big friends, they communicate closely, live in the same room at competitions, and even a dog at the base in Novogorsk was brought in one for two. “We've been together for four years now, shoulder to shoulder. However, an equal fight on the carpet between the girlfriends did not work. Since 2013, Kudryavtseva, albeit behind the scenes, in the eyes of fans and specialists, took the place of the first number of the national team and was considered a contender for victory in any start.

This attitude is easy to explain: since 2013, Kudryavtseva has been stamping victory after victory. First she became a three-time European champion, then she won five medals at the World Championships in Kiev, three of which are gold, two are silver. However, in Lately even silver awards have become a rarity - almost all starts, in which Kudryavtseva took part, ended with her victories. And to the Olympic Games in London, Yana approached the main favorite, having behind her 13 victories at the world championships, nine at the adult European championships, as well as four gold medals at the European Games in Baku. The lion's share of these victories was won in the all-around.

And few people know that one of the most titled gymnasts of the planet in a sports school was at first among the laggards. “I came to the gym at the age of five. At first, I didn’t do much, for a long time I was among the laggards. And then - once - and won the children's championship of Russia. biographies. At the age of 15, Kudryavtseva became the youngest absolute world champion in rhythmic gymnastics in history. Then, of course, she already dreamed of a medal for the Olympic Games, but publicly preferred not to talk about it, limiting herself to the fact that she needed to be selected for the Games and get there without injuries.

Yana has always been distinguished by iron nerves and the absence of mistakes. Today, however, she still wavered. And the mistake deprived her of her chances for first place. This is not the case in sports. I would very much like to present Kudryavtseva with the second gold award, but, alas, this is impossible. Someone should be the first, and someone - the second.

Bronze medalist of the Games gymnast Rizatdinova: "I fought with Russian women to the last, but gymnastics is a very subjective sport"

The Ukrainian athlete commented on her performance at the Games in Rio.

Ukrainian athlete Anna Rizatdinova summed up the results of the rhythmic gymnastics tournament at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and commented on her own performance, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

“Of course, I am happy with this medal. If four years ago, after the Games in London, I felt that somewhere I had not worked, I had not completed something to the end, now I have nothing to reproach myself with. I gave my best and, as you can see, my work was rewarded. I won an Olympic medal, "said the Ukrainian.

When asked why it is impossible to fight on equal terms with the Russian athletes Mamun and Kudryavtseva, the gap from which was about three points, Rizatdinova replied: “I fought with them, fought to the end. But, unfortunately, gymnastics is a very subjective sport . Nevertheless, I have a medal. It does not matter what - gold, silver or bronze. There is a medal, this is the most important thing. "

And when asked by UNIAN about whether the Korean woman Dream, with whom Rizatdinova fought for bronze, was twitching her nerves, she replied: "I did it. The tension was very strong. I would even say that there was not one Korean woman. Five people actually claimed the bronze award today." One loss of the apparatus could negate all efforts. Fortunately, everything turned out very well for me. The Russian Kudryavtseva lost the apparatus? I didn’t see it, I don’t follow my rivals at all. I always concentrate exclusively on my performance. "

Kudryavtseva: after the fall of the maces I wanted to finish the performance

Yana Kudryavtseva - about fallen clubs, tears and shame, the invisible presence of Viner, a dog-talisman and getting used to the platform.

Yana Kudryavtseva for four years was the undisputed leader of rhythmic gymnastics, and therefore went to Rio de Janeiro as a favorite. An unfortunate mistake in the exercise with clubs nullified all her efforts, although in the remaining three exercises Kudryavtseva received the highest marks. In a conversation with journalists, among whom was the correspondent of the Championship, Yana tried to smile, but it was noticeable that she was emotionally devastated
    .

    - Are you more happy about silver or upset that you did not reach for gold?
    - “Glad to the“ silver ”, and the fact that everything is over. Of course, there is frustration, but let's be content with what we have, because it might not have happened. Considering how the year went, what kind of injuries I had this Olympics might not have happened. Therefore, I am glad and the silver medal.

    - What happened to the clubs?
    - At the end of the performance, the strength was already running out. I threw them badly, and did not have time to realize that they did not fly well. That is, I could have done something, but I didn't have time.

    - Is this error connected with the fact that this is the debut Olympiad for you?
    - I do not think. All the mistakes that were due to the fact that we are performing for the first time happened yesterday. I was even a little ashamed of my performance, but the coaches reassured me, saying that this was only the first day and only the beginning, and today it will be better. We tried out the hall and today the performance was much calmer. I think that this is personally my mistake, and not because of the debut.

    - How do you like the local platform atypical for rhythmic gymnastics?
    - Thanks to Irina Aleksandrovna Viner, we began to prepare for the platform in advance. For two months he stood with us in Novogorsk, and now there was also a platform at the final training camp, so we got used to it enough. Thank you very much for this, because without it it would be difficult to perform.

    - Before the last exercise, did you manage to throw out negative emotions?
    - I managed to cry a little after the clubs, to say that I would not go anywhere else, to show my character. But after talking with the coach, I got ready, went out and was able to speak calmly. The coach told me to calm down, explained that we are no longer fighting for the gold medal, but we must hold on and let go of all emotions. I was already performing calmly and relaxed.

    - Compared to qualifications, did you complicate the program?
    - Not. We cannot change the program during the competition.

    - Did you have an idea that it doesn't matter who wins, who will be the second, the main thing is that Russia has gold?
    - From my heart I say that I am insanely happy with this medal, this “silver” is gold for me. After all, I could not get here at all. Insanely happy for Margarita Mamun. It's a shame that it didn't work out as I expected, but I'm still glad.

    - Are you already thinking about the next Olympics?
    - I'm not going to make plans yet, I will have a rest. God forbid, I will hold out until the next Games and take part in them. I am 19 years old, so there is time to think.

    - Why did you have problems with the hoop in qualifying?
    - It's usually hard for me to do it. Firstly, it is always difficult to start with the hoop, but in the final I coped well with it.

    - They say you have a mascot dog that stayed at home. Maybe you missed his support?
    - He never went with us to competitions, so he is always waiting for us at home. At first he lived in Novogorsk, where we train, and now with my mother.

    - Does the absence of Irina Viner at the Olympics create problems for you?
    - No, because Irina Alexandrovna was always in touch after each type of program. We trained, we were recorded on video, then she analyzed all the mistakes and made adjustments. We can say that she completely controlled the whole process.

Margarita Mamun: I love, I am loved, I am a happy person

At almost the same time, the Russian national team won four gold medals. Margarita Mamun won the individual all-around in rhythmic gymnastics.

Mamun bypassed her friend, 13-time world champion Yana Kudryavtseva, who made an unfortunate mistake in an exercise with clubs. This story is about how forever the second at the right moment became the first.

I didn’t look at the grades, I didn’t know who was going what. The day passed in a very fast schedule: we changed our clothes, went to warm up, then perform. I tried to be absolutely concentrated, to do my best.

    - What did coach Amina Zaripova tell you?
    - She told me to be extremely concentrated.

    - This is the debut Olympiad for you. How does it feel?
“I haven’t realized what happened yet. I didn't realize that it was over, how it ended ... Overall, I was very calm. As Irina Aleksandrovna (Viner. - Ed.) Says, we should have Olympic calmness.

    - Have you seen Yoannina's mistake?
    - Of course not. I didn’t look after anyone but myself. I learned from Yana after she did the last exercise with the tape. We were waiting for the other girls to perform, she sat down with me and told me.

    - You had the same mistake in qualifying.
    - Yes, literally distracted for a split second.

    - You are friends with Yana. How do you manage to maintain friendly relations with such intense competition?
    - We have such a sport that there is no direct competition. There is no need to compete, to be ahead of someone by a split second. I went out on the carpet, if I made a mistake, then it's your fault and no one else. On the carpet, we fight with ourselves, with our excitement.

    - Cry on each other's shoulder in case of failure?
    - We always support each other. We are together at the base in Novogorsk, together we go to competitions. We are already just native people. We are often asked about competition, about the situation in the women's team. I don't know, maybe we have such characters: we are complete opposites and that's why we communicate so well.

    - What did you say to her after the end of the tournament?
    - I asked: “Everything ?! Is it over ?! " And she asked me the same thing.

Did the fact that you constantly lost absolute superiority to Yana leave any imprint? Did you realize that you have the worst starting position?
    - I knew that Yana, like no one else, knows how to get ready for important tournaments. I tried not to think about all these past years.

You once said that you have such a quality as the fear of mistakes. Coming to the final for the exercise with clubs, were you not afraid to make a mistake again?
    - Not. She performed absolutely from scratch. As Irina Aleksandrovna told us, this was the last test in qualification, the last call. I tried to forget yesterday, not to transfer yesterday's problems to today.

    - Good performance in qualifications other than exercises with clubs gave you confidence?
    - Certainly. Even before the tournament began, the coaches told me that I was well prepared. It seemed to me that everything was wrong, everything was wrong.

    - Do you have a desire to continue your career for another Olympic cycle?
“I don’t want to guess, but I just adore Tokyo. We go there every year for competitions, for the club world championship. I think they will hold the Olympics at the highest level. I would like to get there, of course.

    - Where do you get your inspiration, emotions?
    - It comes from myself. Of course, my loved ones help me. I love, I am loved, I am a happy person.

Anna RIZATDINOVA: "After the hoop, Irisha was just a beast"

Ukrainian gymnast told how she taught samba before Rio-2016 and about men in "Khudozhestva"

Rhythmic gymnastics is such a subjective sport and so pro-Russian that it was difficult to expect more bronze medals for Anna Rizatdinova. Something incredible had to happen for the judges to rate our gymnast higher than Kudryavtseva and Mamun. Did not happen. Well, okay. But her samba was appreciated by the Brazilian audience, which awarded Rizatdinova with loud applause.

I fought to the last. But we have a very subjective sport, everyone knows that. Believe me, in rhythmic gymnastics, an Olympic medal - even if it is "silver" or "bronze" - it is evaluated as gold. We believe that the top three will receive three gold awards.

    - Your “bronze” is doubly valuable, because in London 2012 Ukraine was without awards. You then had only tenth place.
    - After the 2012 Olympics, to be honest, my conscience was not very clear. In terms of work. But when the new Olympic four-year period began, I realized what awaited me. If I am consciously preparing for the Olympic Games, as the first number, then Ukraine needs to bring a medal. And today I did my best for this. Honestly. I gave everything I could, everything and strength and emotions. When I went to the last view - the tape - I realized that I could be the third. But we have such an insidious sport that if I put the ribbon on the floor once, my bronze would not be there. I trusted God and did my job. I worked everything honestly and God rewarded me.

    - You have prepared a new program for the 2016 Games.
    - I am very happy that this Olympics was held in Brazil. Because our sport is about music and dance. This is what is loved in Brazil. Here people, like no other, feel the rhythm. I tried to specially make a bright and memorable program for Rio. Happened. And they supported me tremendously today.

    - Especially your tape turned out to be rhythmic.
    - A year ago, we specially came to a tournament in the Brazilian city of Vitoria to feel the climate, to see how objects behave in this humidity. And there we took samba lessons from a local coach. For about three hours they danced, learned the movements, and upon arrival home they put on a ribbon with elements of samba.

    - In the fight for the third place, a Korean gymnast battered your nerves a little.
    - Yes, all the nearest five could be on the podium. I didn't watch her last show. It is distracting and morally crushing. You need to be self-centered.

    - You went out into the hall with Blokhin. Is she for you Irisha or Irina Olegovna?
    - Irisha. But strict Irisha. Since the 2013 World Cup, which was held in Kiev, Irisha has completely entered into coaching. Since then, she began to work closely with me. Before leaving, it is very important for me that there is a person nearby who will be my support, support, who can understand, calm down, feel your condition without words. And Irisha understands and feels me very much. And I myself asked her to come out with me, because Irisha and I are comfortable.

You say Irisha will calm her down, but her joy was simply overwhelmed after each performance. What could knock you out of spirits.
    - Yes, she is very emotional and positive. But behind the site, after the hoop, when I was in fourth place, Irisha was just a beast. I understood that if I didn't fix the situation now, I would feel bad.

    - There is talk that it is time to start up men in rhythmic gymnastics at the Games.
    - Oh no. Rhythmic gymnastics is not for men. It is very elegant, it is feminine, it is music, dancing. No, I don't see men in rhythmic gymnastics.

Gold for Rita Mamun behind the black curtains of Rio
Our observer Irina Stepantseva reports from Brazil

Yana, still saddened, will say that she is very happy for Rita. And it will be true. Rita, stunned, when asked about the first words that she had already said to Yana, exhale: “Is it really all over?”. Margarita Mamun is the champion, Yana Kudryavtseva is the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in individual all-around in rhythmic gymnastics. Both were supposed to stand on a pedestal. Nobody doubted it. But no one would have said in advance whose medal would be gold.

Irina Viner-Usmanova was able to convince them: someone will be the first, and someone will not. Note, not the second, but just like that: "someone is not." Here in Rio, one had to either make a mistake or increase the advantage a little bit. Yana and increased. Yana made the mistake of dropping her mace.

I threw the mace badly and did not have time to realize that it was flying badly, although I could have done something, but did not have time. I managed to get upset, sit down, cry, say that I'm not going anywhere else - as always, show my character. But my coach (Elena Lvovna Karpushenko - I.S.) talked, she said: let go of all emotions, give a smile and - go ahead.

The maces were of the third kind. After two, Kudryavtseva was in the lead, the third ate not only the advantage, but also threw back almost a point. The last species, the tape, could no longer remedy the situation. But everything had to be done - unmistakably. With this, Kudryavtseva again went to the Olympic carpet. On which, as he will repeat several times after the awarding, it could not have appeared at all. Therefore, I am glad to silver. And - saddened. And - "we will be content with what we have." “Letting go of emotions”, Yana, in this form, received the highest mark of the competition.

I am insanely happy with silver - it is gold for me. The most difficult thing before the starts? Emotionally, I am always in the right mood, I go and go from sight to sight. It was very difficult to warm up here, usually I never worry, but here there was still a tremor, and it was difficult to go out to the first sight. Of course, I wanted to approach the Games in the highest possible form. But - as they approached, so they approached.

She will suddenly say: she cried after finishing her Olympic performance, not because of a loss, but glad that everything was over. And he will pick up a characteristic of that - "well enough" ended. It is no coincidence that he will pick it up - on the thirtieth of September, on her birthday, Yana had an operation. After that world championship in which she performed with a crushed leg and won.

After all, in training, while we were here preparing for the start, I did not do all the jumps that I should jump. Only when I arrived for testing, the first time I jumped - they were afraid for the legs. Due to the stress, they sometimes hurt. A piece of my scaphoid broke off on the instep. I was told that I have such an abnormal foot, there is an additional bone in it. And she, in turn, pressed on the bone, which eventually crumbled. The photographs did not show this, and only in Germany after the World Cup, when I rested and the inflammation had passed, the doctors saw fragmentation. They immediately said: go to the operation. The bone was removed, small tears were sanded down. I had necrosis, everything crumbled ... First, I was offered to screw something with bolts. But then a sports career would be in jeopardy. Dad's friends, athletes, advised another clinic in Germany. The doctors had doubts about the further stability of the foot. But we didn't have much choice, so we decided to do this. We did it, began to recover from crutches. At the same time, I could not jump at all until March. In the middle of the exercise, she stopped and fell - the leg could not stand it.

What were her years, and she received silver today, so that the incentive for the new Olympic cycle would remain - such thoughts haunted many on this day. Many were also happy and - saddened. And many will remember how at one time Alina Kabaeva, who was going to win, made a serious mistake at the Games in Sydney, then Yulia Barsukova won. But if she had not done it, she would not have performed at the Olympics in Athens. When the unconditional leader loses, and the second number wins, for one - it is annoying, for the second - joyfully: I have endured, I waited! And Yana, Yana, who won all world championships in a row - only 18 years old!

And after the operation, after I was already in a cast, I weighed three kg less than at the World Championships. Firstly, on the basis of nervousness, of course. And secondly, I have a very strict dad - he will not allow any cakes or sweets. He Olympic champion swimming and, first of all, worried about the legs - so that the excess weight does not put pressure on them, because the extra 100-200 grams is very difficult for the operated leg. I am grateful to him for that. Although, of course, as a child, he felt sorry for me.

... And Amina Zaripova, the coach of Margarita Mamun, clearly did not want to take off her gold medal. So I walked in it in the mixed zone, waiting for the Olympic champion, for her in many ways - just Ritka.

We walked in a fast schedule, after the next kind we warmed up, changed clothes, there were big warm-up carpets, we had to move from one to the other, - said Margarita. “I didn’t know who was following whom. You had to be extremely concentrated. I have not yet realized that it was all over and how it ended. In general, everything was calm. No, I didn't see Yana's mistake. And I found out about this only after her last exercise, when Yana came and sat down next to me, where everyone who had already finished performing were sitting. Yes, for me it is usual - the fear of a mistake. Not everything went smoothly in qualifying, I tried to forget about it.

Oh, no - Mamun not only tried to forget about the mistake, also, by the way, in the exercise with clubs, but made every effort to this. No matter how you try, gymnasts will not open their souls wide open even at the moment of triumph. I had to recall the personal trainer Amin Zaripova aside.

It's good that she made a mistake on testing. I made a difficult element and - relaxed, Irina Aleksandrovna and I reassured her: calm down, this is testing. Yes, mistakes stick into memory - did you notice that she was wearing a different swimsuit today? I also asked to rewind the electrical tape on the clubs, so that everything was from scratch for real. To make the "bad" go away. This is not important for female psychology, it is important for Mamun. Yana Kudryavtseva, a true athlete, fighter, athlete with a capital letter, probably does not pay attention to such things. And Rita is so soft, sincere.

The coach again clutched the medal in her hands, which she never took off. And suddenly she said something that was somehow embarrassing to ask the winners.

Honestly, I did not believe in the gold medal, because we always lost to Yana. Rita and I won not a single European championship, not a single world championship - we were second and fifth. Yesterday I told her that 20 years ago I went out to open personal all-around at the Games in Atlanta, which she will do too. She said: you must go out and understand: you did everything so that it did not hurt that day. I still remember that day, and I have it not very pleasant and not very good - because of the fourth place. And you should wake up and remember him as the happiest.

It turns out that it was she, Zaripova, who asked the masseurs, choreographers, everyone who was from our people around to be silent and not speak - how the girls go from species to species, who is the first and who is the second.

We did not know anything, I asked not to say anything. Why do I need this? I can't change anything. I will not suddenly put an element more difficult, we have a proven program that has been rolling for more than one day. And I am an emotional person, from the information I would start to shake some kind of inner veins, something would happen to me. Thank God I didn't know. And that we were completely closed in these black curtains. True, I heard two types, the first - Yana, then - Rita. And then - everything is as if in a fog. I learn from Elena Lvovna Karpushenko all the time - patience. She herself is crazy, what I think is what I say. It's hard for Ritka. But on the other hand, she's used to it. And for such an emotional assessment that Irina Aleksandrovna can give, she has already been prepared through me. Yes, Rita?

And Rita Mamun at that moment could, it seems to me, also give out anything. However, no. The school of Russian rhythmic gymnastics is a manners for which one is not ashamed.

For some reason, no one believes that we are friends with Yana. But we have this kind of sport - you went out, if you did everything, then you did, if you made a mistake, you made it yourself. Yana and I are dear people. Yana always knows how to pull herself together and perform very well. All these years I tried not to think that I was the second, just to work on myself and carry out the program to the maximum. The coaches told me even before the training camp that I was well prepared. It seemed to me that everything was wrong and everything was wrong. From the side you know better. In general - I love, I am loved, I am a happy person.

... Two medals in rhythmic gymnastics in individual all-around, as in London 2012. We were, of course, waiting for them. We were taught to do this, the athletes were trained. Irina Viner-Usmanova did not come to Rio, but she was in touch all the time - she gave an assessment of all trainings, talked with the athletes. And these words of the coach, they probably remember: “I always say to gymnasts: if you were immediately hanged a medal - Olympic, world, European, and you would not do anything for this, would you be pleased? No. This is called the bread of shame. And so - when they worked, went through everything, this is a glorious victory. "

Olympic Games in Rio. Chronicle of events
    Irina Stepantseva

Traditionally, the last days of the Olympic Games are rich in gold medals for our team. The fact is that beautiful girls - synchronized swimmers and gymnasts - enter the fight. Today the girls in the pool finished their competitive program, winning the fifth Olympiad in a row, and now it's time for the gymnasts-artists to start. They, like the synchronized swimmers, have not given gold awards to anyone since 2000. Naturally, they were not going to miss the first place at the Olympics in Brazil.

On the first day in rhythmic gymnastics, qualifying competitions were held before the individual all-around. Russia was represented by and. Yana is a three-time world champion in individual all-around, the owner of a huge number of gold medals in performances with individual subjects, a four-time winner of the European Games in Baku.

Olympic Games. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
    Rhythmic gymnastics. Individual all-around. Qualification

    1. (Russia) - 74.383.

    2. (Russia) - 73.998.

    3. Anna Rizatdinova (Ukraine) - 73.935.

Margarita is not yet such a brilliant and titled athlete. She was second in the all-around world championships twice and, as a rule, was inferior to her teammate. But together our girls are a formidable force capable of crushing any rivals.

And the competitors of the Russians were more than serious. Here is the most experienced Ukrainian woman Anna Rizatdinova dreaming of adding an Olympic medal to a solid collection of awards. AND Melitina Stanyuta, one and a half dozen times ascending the podium at the world championships. And a Korean woman Song Young Jae, and Neta Rivkin from Israel - they all brilliantly prepared for the Olympics in Brazil and hoped that Russian girls would give them a chance to compete for awards.

    Mamun pleasantly surprises

For Russian girls, the Olympics in Brazil began with a hoop. Margarita with her favorite subject was inimitable. Not a single mistake, not a single misfire and a high level of difficulty provided the athlete with the highest score among all the participants in the competition - 18.833. Kudryavtseva, although a little behind, was also great - 18,166. Only experienced Stanyuta and Rizatdinova managed to wedge in between the Russians, who scored 18,400 points each. But, be that as it may, a shock start was made. The excitement, if it did arise, had to pass: our girls succeeded.

In the second change of subjects, Margarita continued to surprise those who considered Yana Kudryavtseva to be the unconditional first number of the Russian team. In exercises with the ball, Margarita showed real Olympic calmness, did not make a single mistake and received the highest score from the referees - 19,000. This time, Kudryavtseva did not allow anyone to move from second place - 18.616. However, Ukrainian Rizatdinova was quite close by - 18.566. It is curious that the Korean gymnast Son also took a high place after two changes of objects. Exercises with the ball were a success for her: she received 18 points and was in the top five along with four applicants for the award from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

The name of the champion is impossible to predict

The athletes returned to the arena after an hour and a half break. All of them still had to show their mastery of ribbon and clubs. All the leaders, including the Russian women, first took up maces. And here it was Yana Kudryavtseva's turn to recoup for small flaws at the start of qualification. The impeccable performance of the world champion in the all-around gave her 19,000 points and immediately moved to the first place, since the competitors were imperfect. Margarita received only 17.5 points for the clubs and was in third place. Rizatdinova still held the second place with a minimal advantage over Mamun. Stanyuta and Son were in the top five, but the gap was almost a point.

It seemed that Yana would remain the first according to the results of the qualification, but the exercise with the ribbon still changed the final balance of power. Yana with the fourth subject earned a mark of 18.216 and secured herself second place. Everything depended on the results of Margarita, and she showed a truly magical performance. The judges were impressed with what Mamun showed and rated her program at 19.050 points - the highest mark at the end of the competitive day.

Thus, according to the results of the qualification, she took first place, breaking away from Yana Kudryavtseva, who finished in second position, by 0.3 points. However, it is not the separation that is important, but the very fact of the confrontation. At this Olympics, there is no prima in the team, and at the end of today, hardly anyone would dare to name the champion: Mamun and Kudryavtseva were equally great! However, the fact that the gold in the individual all-around will again go to Russia, few doubts.

    Vladimir RAUSH
    from the Olympic Park

Writing about Russian rhythmic gymnastics is simple and difficult at the same time. Simply - because everything seems to be on the surface. The fans are used to the fact that ours always win in this sport. Yesterday. Today. And tomorrow too. Any other outcome will be perceived as news of the end of the world. As if the world collapsed, or the earth went out of its orbit. The comparison may be trivial, but nothing else comes to mind. If only because over the past twenty years Olympic history this has never happened.

The difficulty of reporting on rhythmic gymnastics is that it is almost impossible to say something new. Everything has already been written before us. And about the cruel regime of the day and the nutrition of the athletes who live at the base in Novogorsk, in fact, in a barracks position. And about their grueling training. Not just physically difficult - any professional athlete will tell you about them. We are talking specifically about training, which is morally exhausting. Endless repetitions of individual elements and runs of entire programs - to shine, to automatism. Those who maximize the rating, but hit the psyche with a hammer and crumble the brain.

    SESSIONAL KUDRYAVTSEVA

When planning to write about competitions in individual all-around, your correspondent wondered: what place did they take Margarita Mamun and Yana Kudryavtseva at the past Games? Only after several minutes of intense reflection, my memory suddenly suggested that not one of them performed there. Other Russians shone in London - gorgeous Evgeniya Kanaeva and her teammate Daria Dmitrieva... It's not about my sclerosis, it's just that Mamun and Kudryavtseva were so accustomed to their constant victories that it seems that they were always on the platform.

It was not by chance that I began to remember the performance of our athletes in London. One of the revelations of recent months was an interview Kudryavtseva in "SE", in which the athlete said: it is not very important for her to win in Rio de Janeiro. The main thing that gold medal went to the Russian woman. Hearing this, I was amazed. This undermined the essence of elite sport. His main driving force has always been personal ambition, multiplied by the prestige of the Olympic champion title. All athletes are always driven forward by one thing - the desire to become the best, to surpass, to prove.

And here a person voluntarily renounces the main thing in his life, sacrificing this in favor of partners. If there was a share of cunning in Yana's words, it was quite small - I don't think she was twisting her soul, wanting to play the role of an unmercenary. It is just such a degree of physical and spiritual self-sacrifice, brought to the absolute. It is worth understanding this, and no other explanation is needed to describe the psychological portrait of Russian "artists". Although, perhaps, it is not given to us, mere mortals, to fully understand it.

    MALFUNCTIONAL CLUBS

Pre-launch layouts seemed to speak in favor of Kudryavtseva... At three world championships of this Olympic cycle, she invariably took first place in the all-around, each time leaving her friend in the national team and the main rival Mamun behind the back. However, in the course of the Olympic qualification, Margarita presented a surprise. She confidently won the competition, breaking away from the second Russian woman by a solid 0.385 points. And this despite the fact that Mamun suffered a collapse in exercises with clubs - she lost the apparatus, received a serious deduction and took only 11th place in this discipline. You can imagine the level of her overall assessment, if the failure did not follow!

In such a subjective sport as rhythmic gymnastics, qualification is always more than just selection. It is also an opportunity for judges to assess in advance the level of athletes and their readiness. It is no secret that the impression left in qualifications is often reflected in the marks received in the main competitions. And from this point of view, the Olympic all-around acquired a new intrigue.

However, as soon as the tournament began, everything quickly fell into place. Kudryavtseva noticeably added to the complexity of the programs in exercises with a hoop and a ball, and after the first two types she won almost one and a half points from herself on Friday. Mamun, on the contrary, was slightly inferior to herself. In general, the two leaders of the tournament were separated by quite impressive 0.275 points: 38.475 for Kudryavtseva versus 38.200 for Mamun.

Exercises with clubs in the light of what happened the day before acquired special significance. Mamun to the famous song We will Rock You Queen groups really rocked the hall, and most importantly - the judges. 19,050 - with that rating, she would have won this event in qualifying. But Kudryavtseva had a real sports tragedy. Performing the last toss of the club to the closing chords of her musical composition, she was unable to keep the slippery object in her palm and dropped it on the carpet.

In anticipation of the assessment, Yana sat with her head lowered. The body shook with silent sobs. 17.883 - these points kept her overall second place, but deprived of all hope of winning. At that moment she lagged behind the other Russian woman by 0.892 points - this does not work out within the framework of one type.

    FORGETTING ABOUT PAIN

Exactly Mamun opened the final view of the program - exercises with a ribbon. The camera zoomed in on her face just before the exit - from nervous tension it turned into a mask. But Rita coped with her task: falling on the carpet in the final of the exercise meant not only a spectacular ending, but also a huge relief in her soul. An estimated 19.233 gymnast and her mentor, famous in the past Amina Zaripova greeted in an embrace. It was clear, I had just finished my speech Olympic champion!

I must pay tribute Kudryavtseva... She went to the platform, knowing full well that she would not rise above the second place. And this is where the habit worked in the right moments forget about pain - both moral and physical. Yana not only performed her program flawlessly, but even surpassed her rival - 19,250. And although this did not affect her standing in any way, for some reason I am sure that for the athlete herself it was extremely important.

Everything in the world was not in vain. It was not in vain.

    No chance for rivals

Russian Margarita Mamun won gold in the individual all-around, beating her teammate Yana Kudryavtseva, who became the absolute world champion for three years in a row. Kudryavtseva made a mistake in the exercise with clubs, receiving a deduction for this element, and the score prevented her from claiming gold after Mamun completed her fourth event - the ribbon. However, the silver medalist Kudryavtseva stressed that she was happy to have a medal, because in her life the Olympic Games might not have happened at all.

“I’m not going to think about it yet (about participation in the 2020 Olympic Games). I adore Tokyo, this is one of my favorite cities, we go there every year to compete. I am sure that they will hold the Olympics at the highest level. I’m not guessing, but I would like to, ”said 20-year-old Mamun after the victory.

Kudryavtseva also noted that she hopes to perform at the Tokyo Games in four years.

“Glad for the silver, glad it's over. Let us be content with what we have, because all this might not have happened. There could be no Games. I managed to cry after the clubs, but the coach and I talked. She said, "Let go of all emotions." And I already went out and performed calmly. Now, with all my heart, I am insanely happy with my silver. Cried, maybe because it was over. While I am resting, God forbid, I will make it to Tokyo, and I will perform there, I am only 19 years old, ”said Kudryavtseva.

In the morning, the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team in group exercises qualified with the second result in the final of the Olympic tournament, which will be held on Sunday. Anastasia Maksimova, Anastasia Bliznyuk, Anastasia Tatareva, Maria Tolkacheva and Vera Biryukova scored 35.516 points on the sum of two exercises - with five ribbons and with two hoops and six clubs. The first place was taken by the Spaniards, the third in the qualification were the Belarusians. Also, the national teams of Italy, Japan, Israel, Bulgaria, Ukraine made it to the final.

    Historical success of handball players

Russian handball players won Olympic gold medals for the first time on Saturday. In the final, Evgeny Trefilov's team defeated the French women - 22:19. The game as a whole was played with the advantage of the Russians, only in the second half did the rivals manage to level the score once, but the Russian team again went into the lead and brought the matter to victory.

For two Russian handball players - Ekaterina Marennikova and Irina Bliznova - these medals became the second in their careers. In 2008, they already became silver medalists at the Beijing Games. After the victory in Rio, the captain of the Russian national team Bliznova announced her retirement. “I have put a golden point in my career,” said the athlete.

Trefilov said that he has no plans to leave the Russian national team yet. “I have all titles except the European Championship. So this tournament will work with the national team for sure. Let's try to work out another Olympic cycle, why not? It's another matter that everything is possible in life, ”said the coach of the champions.

    Lesun tore everyone

The Olympic tournament in modern pentathlon ended with the triumph of Russian Alexander Lesun, who, after an excellent result in fencing, held out at a satisfactory level in swimming and show jumping, although there were problems with the horse (3 fells), but managed to start first and did not give up a position at the finish line.

According to the results of four events, the Russian scored 1479 points, setting a new Olympic record. Silver went to the Ukrainian Pavel Timoshchenko (1472). Bronze from the Mexican Marcelo Hernandez (1468). “I went out, and there was a feeling that it was as if I would tear everyone up here. I felt like a master here, ”the Olympic champion shared his mood.

“Alexander is the best sportsman in the world, he has proved it with his entire career. No wonder he in an interview when asked about the real main competitor said: "My competitor is Alexander Lesun." This victory is primarily President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, because the attention, support that he gives to our sport, there is no such support anywhere in the world, "said the head of the Federation of Modern Pentathlon of Russia Vyacheslav Aminov.

    Sadulayev could not lose

Freestyle wrestler Abdulrashid Sadulayev won a gold medal in the weight category up to 86 kg on Saturday. The two-time world champion confidently passed the entire tournament grid, defeating the Olympic champion from Azerbaijan Sharif Sharifov in the semifinals, and Zelimkhan Kartoyev, a native of Ingushetia, who now plays for Turkey under the name Selim Yasar in the final.

“The Olympics have been my dream since childhood, today my dream has come true,” said the champion. - I am very glad that I met the hopes of the coaches and fans. This is our common victory. I don't set myself a 10-0 goal to do. I go out on the carpet, and then how it goes. Each time it is harder and harder to fight with rivals, so you have to fight twice more in training. We didn’t have a gold medal yesterday, so I had to win anyway, there’s no other way. ”

The bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics, three-time world champion Bilyal Makhov (125) performed extremely unsuccessfully - the super heavyweight lost the first meeting and dropped out of the fight for the tournament medals.

    Obstacle Race with Broken Finger

Russian cyclist Irina Kalentieva was left without a medal in the women's cross-country. The leader of the Russian national mountain bike team came to the finish line 17th, but as always unbending and with a positive attitude. Before this Olympics, Kalentieva missed several races, since at the start of the season she underwent surgery for appendicitis, and in training before the competition, already in Rio, she broke her thumb.

“The operation for appendicitis also affected, and I broke my thumb shortly before the race, but I passed it. Maybe this is my last Olympics, we'll see. In the meantime, I'm getting ready for the World Cup in Andorra and for the next season, - Kalentieva told reporters. - The starting position was not the best, and five months of training to reach a high level after appendicitis surgery is not enough. But I got there, albeit in the middle. I think that even participating in the Olympic Games is great. I am not at my peak yet, I intend to recruit it for the World Cup final. "

The gold in this type of program was won by the Swede Jenny Rissweds (1.30.15), the second was the representative of Poland Maya Włoszczowska (1.30.52), the third - Katarin Pendrel from Canada (1.31.41).

Minibaev completed the jumpers' medleless gait

Now we can say for sure that Russian divers are leaving the Olympic Games without medals for the first time in 28 years. The last chance for them to win a medal in Rio was the final in individual jumping from the platform, where Viktor Minibaev went, but he also remained outside the winners (8th result).

“There is disappointment, but life does not stand still. I will be preparing for the World Championships in Budapest and the Tokyo Olympics. But I am not satisfied with our head coach(Oleg Zaitsev) in terms of his work: he is in himself, does not say anything to anyone, always everything at the very last moment. It seems to me, as a head coach, he should support us, and for two weeks in Rio he never approached me, did not ask me how things were, ”Minibaev said following his performance at the Games.

Out of the final was the debutant of the Games Nikita Schleikher, who stopped at the previous stage of the tournament. At the end of the semifinals, Schleicher stopped fighting and did it in good company - the medalist of the Games and one of the main diving stars Thomas Daly (Great Britain) also failed to make it to the final. “Now I have even more motivation for Tokyo, I want to be the Olympic champion in individual jumping from the platform,” admitted Daly.

Well, the Chinese Chen Aisen won that day, the Mexican Herman Sanchez won the silver, the American David Budaya won the bronze.

    Shtokalov without a second medal

The Russian national kayaking and canoeing team was left without medals on the last day of the competition at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Russians Ilya Shtokalov and Ilya Pervukhin took fifth place in the competitions in double canoe at a distance of 1000 meters. German rowers Sebastian Brendel and Jan Vandrei won the gold medal. At the same time, during the swim, the Russians, for whom the Games became the first tournament in one crew, were in the second position.

Also that day, the four-row kayak crew consisting of Roman Anoshkin, Vasily Pogreban, Kirill Lyapunov and Oleg Zhestkov, who unexpectedly did not make it to the final A, showed the first result in the consolation race. The German men's national team celebrated their victory in the main final of this competition.

Evgeny Lukantsov became the sixth in the final B in the 200-meter kayak competition, in which the British Liam Heath won the gold medal. The crew of the Hungarian women's national team became the first in the 500-meter four-kayak competition, making Donata Kozak a five-time Olympic champion.

Verchenova showed the best result, but too late

The second set of awards was played in a golf tournament, and a Korean woman named Pak Inbi became the Olympic champion. Russian Maria Verchenova showed the best result on the fourth day, setting a field record, and soared to 16th place in the final classification. It is noteworthy that she completed one of the holes in just one hit.

The women's triathlon race proved to be pretty predictable in all respects. The winner was the American Gwen Jorgensen, who has dominated this sport in recent years, and the silver medalist was the 2012 London champion, Swiss Nicola Spirig. The Russians, as expected, took places below the second ten: Alexandra Razarenova's 20th place (+4.53 lag), 25th - Maria Shorets (+5.17), 32nd - Anastasia Abrosimova (+6.29).

Neymar led the Brazilians to victory

Brazil's footballers defeated Germany in the home Olympics final, taking revenge for their humiliating defeat at the home world championship. The main time of the match at the Maracanã stadium ended with a score of 1: 1 - the Germans responded to Neymar's goal (27th minute) with the ball from Max Mayer (59). In the penalty shootout, the home team won with a score of 5: 4, the decisive blow was realized by Neymar. Bronze was won by the Nigerians, who beat Honduras in the match for third place - 3: 2.

Meanwhile, the US basketball players expectedly won gold medals, defeating the Spanish women in the final with a score of 101: 72. Bronze medals were previously won by the basketball players of the Serbian national team, who beat France. Gold came to the Serbs in men's water polo, in the final of which they defeated the Croats, and the Italians became the third.

Boxers Arlen Lopez and Robeci Ramirez (both Cubans), Briton Nicola Adams, Chinese badminton player Chen Long, German javelin thrower Thomas Rehler and Spanish high jumper Ruth Beitia also became Olympic champions on Saturday.

Five sets of awards were played at once in running: Briton Mo Farah won at a distance of 5000 meters, American Matthew Centrovitz - at 1500 meters, South African Caster Semenya - at 800 meters, as well as the US women's and men's teams in the relay race 4 x 400 meters.

Finally, the game day ended with a volleyball match between the women's teams of China and Serbia. The offenders of the Russian national team at the quarterfinals stage, the Serbs confidently won the first set 25:19, but later they could not impose a serious fight on the Chinese women and eventually lost in the next three - 17:25, 22:25, 23:25. Day 11, August 16, 2016, Broadcasts watch online:

Wrestler Roman Vlasov, gymnast Aliya Mustafina and tennis players Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova secured a record for Russia in terms of gold medals won at the current Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro - three awards at the end of the competitive day.

Sunday afternoon, smoothly flowing into Monday, was also remembered for another round in the proceedings with the Russian athlete Daria Klishina, whom the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) did not allow to participate in the Olympics because of her appearance in the report of the independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

    Unbending Aliya

Mustafina's gold became extremely important in the exercise on the uneven bars, which is considered her signature look. The Russian woman became a two-time Olympic champion, winning the second gold in this discipline in a row after London 2012. It was not easy for her to do this due to the fact that at these Games she performed with back pain, but even so, she also won silver in team competitions and bronze in individual all-around.

In the uneven bars, Mustafina won 15,900 ahead of American Madison Koshan (15.833) and German Sophie Scheder (15.566).

Many expected that Mustafina could announce her retirement, but the head coach of the Russian national team Valentina Rodionenko told TASS that the 21-year-old athlete intends to rest for two years, and then begin to prepare for the Olympic cycle before the 2020 Games in Tokyo. The athlete herself later confirmed this.

In addition, Maria Paseka became the second in the vault, in which she is the reigning world champion. Gold was won by American Simone Biles, who won in Rio de Janeiro already in the all-around and in team competitions, the third place was taken by the Swiss Julia Steingruber.

The legendary 41-year-old Oksana Chusovitina, who played for the national teams of the USSR, the United Team, Germany and now represents Uzbekistan, became the seventh, but at the same time announced that she did not intend to end her career, but wanted to compete at the World Championships next year in Canada.

Britain's Max Whitlock, who won gold in floor exercise and on horseback, successfully competed in men. The Russians did not perform in the freestyle, and in the exercise on the horse David Belyavsky and Nikolai Kuksenkov took fifth and sixth places, respectively.

    Historic gold in tennis

Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won Olympic gold in women's doubles for the first time in the history of the Russian national team. The girls in the Olympic final left no chances for the Swiss pair Martin Hingis / Timea Bachinski, beating them with a score of 6: 4, 6: 4. It is noteworthy that the Russians risked missing the 2016 Olympics altogether, because due to a plane breakdown and bad weather they did not have time for a flight from Canada and barely managed to arrive on the eve of the start of the Olympic tournament.

After the final, the strength of the Russians was recognized by Khingis, and Vesnina and Makarova themselves said that the Olympics were a priority tournament for them this year, for which they postponed trials related to flight delays and poor living conditions at the Games.

The tennis tournament of the Olympics ended in the men's final, in which Briton Andy Murray defeated Argentine Juan Martin del Potro with a score of 7: 5, 4: 6, 6: 2, 7: 5. The bronze medalist was the Japanese Kei Nishikori, who defeated the 2008 Olympic champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

Murray became the first tennis player in Olympic history to win two gold medals in an individual tournament. Four years ago, he won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and also won silver in the mixed doubles.

    Repeat the path of Karelin

In the evening program, Russia rightly expected victory from the Greco-Roman style wrestler in the weight category up to 75 kg Roman Vlasov. The 25-year-old Russian justified hopes.

Vlasov left no chances to any of his rivals, and in the final he beat Dane Mark Madsen with a score of 5: 1. Nor did the Russian stop an unpleasant episode in the semifinals, where the judge allowed the Croat Bozho Starcevic to strangle the Russian, which made him lose consciousness, but soon came to his senses and won the fight.

Thus, Vlasov became a two-time Olympic champion, having won four years ago in London. Four years later in Tokyo, he has a chance to repeat the record of Alexander Karelin, who won three gold in a row (1988, 1992, 1996). The two-time winner of the Games himself said that it was impossible to break Karelin's record. “This man (Karelin. - approx. TASS) did everything in sports. He is a colossus, ”said Vlasov.

Silver Kamensky and bronze by Elfutina in windsurfing

The final day turned out to be extremely offensive Olympic competitions in shooting, where two Russians reached the final of the discipline in rifle shooting from 50 meters from three positions - Sergei Kamensky, who became the first in qualification, and Fedor Vlasov.

Before his final shots for the first place, Kamensky was ahead of the Italian Nicola Campriani, who had already become the Olympic champion in air rifle shooting from 10 meters here. The Italian smeared the last shot, but Kamensky shot even worse, becoming the vice-champion.

The bronze was won by the Frenchman Alexis Reino. Vlasov, who was in the lead during the final, finished seventh.

The results of the shooting tournament turned out to be successful for domestic representatives of bullet shooting and unsuccessful for representatives of trap shooting. In bullet shooting, the Russians won four medals: two silver and two bronze. Moreover, in Olympic London they had none. In trap shooting, none of the Russians even managed to overcome the qualification.

The first Olympic medal in domestic sailing among women was won by Stefania Elfutina, who became the third in the RS: X (windsurfing) class. Frenchwoman Charlene Picon (64) won, the second was Chinese woman Chen Payna (66). The last time the Russians won medals in sailing 20 years ago was in Atlanta: Georgy Shaiduko, Igor Skalin and Dmitry Shabanov won silver in the Soling class.

Denis Dmitriev won bronze in the personal sprint in the cycle track. In the fight for third place, the Russian in both races was stronger than Australian Matthew Gletzer. Gold was won by Briton Jason Kenny, who beat his compatriot Callum Skinner in the final. In the cycling track at the 2016 Games, the UK team has already won 6 medals in 6 disciplines (4 gold and 2 silver). For the Russian national team, Dmitriev's medal in this discipline at the Olympic Games became a debut: the previous time a domestic cyclist won a medal in the Games in an individual sprint on a cycle track in 1988 in Seoul, when Soviet athlete Nikolai Kovsh became a silver medalist.

The silver medalist of the Games in the team sprint Anastasia Voinova, who reached the 1/8 finals in the sprint, continues to wrestle in the cycle track.

WADA accused Klishina of concealing samples

There was confirmation from the words of Klishina's lawyer Paul Green that the athlete could open the doping tests made during the 2013 World Cup in Moscow. According to the representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Mark Adams during the organization's briefing, the athlete will not perform at the Games if her name is mentioned in the McLaren report.

“The Klishina situation is a matter for the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations),” Adams said. - We have already said that each federation makes decisions on such cases. As for the McLaren report, this is one of three key components that allow Russian athletes to prove their innocence. WADA has done everything to ensure that all federations are aware of this information, and we must ask the IAAF about Klishina. "

“If you are somehow touched upon in the McLaren report, you are out of the game. This was one of the key conditions for the participation or non-participation of Russian athletes in the Games in Rio de Janeiro, "Adams emphasized.

On the other hand, I could also become a champion. Armstrong bypassed me by only 5 seconds, it's a shame to lose so little in the last segment. "

“Olga is quite capable of withstanding another Olympic cycle and qualitatively preparing for the next Games in 2020 in Tokyo. I take into account her attitude to sports, and her health still allows her to show good results, ”said Alexander Gusyatnikov, advisor to the president of the Russian Cycling Federation, to TASS.

    Four major Olympic venues

The most important sporting events will take place at Barra Tijuca Park near Lake Jacarepagua. There are three "Carioca Arena"... They will host competitions in such sports as:

    • judo;
    • fight;

As for the other three clusters: Maracana, Deodoro and Copacabana then competitions in other sports should be held on their territory.

It is important to emphasize that the opening ceremony was held in Marakana and the closing of the 2016 Games should take place.

In the Rio Olympics, only those countries of the Olympic Committees that are members of the IOC are eligible to participate. These are 206 countries. For the first time ever in Olympic medals the "team of refugees" (South Sudan, Kosovo) will fight.

By the way, the USA will have the largest representation. As many as 554 athletes. In second place are Brazilian athletes with 465 people. Russia will be represented at the Games in Rio with 271 athletes. This number was approved by the IOC. Initially, there was an application for 389 athletes, but some of the athletes did not pass the admissions according to certain criteria.

On the selection criteria for Russian athletes

After lengthy proceedings in a high-profile anti-doping scandal, at first it was decided not to admit the entire Russian national team to the 2016 Olympics. This even applied to those athletes who had never taken doping. But, after some time, it was decided to select Russian athletes according to the main and only criterion - the absence of any violations under anti-doping rules.

The final decision on the admission of the Russian National Team was entrusted to three people from the IOC:

    1. Head of the Athletes' Commission Claudia Bockel (German).
    2. Head of the Medical Commission Ugur Erdener (Turk).
    3. Member of the Executive Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch (Spaniard).

These three men ruled out the Russian national rowing team as well as the weightlifting team. According to them, the largest number of cases of violations of the anti-doping program were revealed there.

    RF

On Saturday, in exact accordance with the forecast, two awards at once - gold and silver - were won by the Russians at the end of the Olympic tournament in rhythmic gymnastics in individual all-around. The victory went to Margarita Mamun, and the 13-time world champion Yana Kudryavtseva, who was considered the favorite, was left with silver due to an error in the exercise with clubs. And on Sunday, the Russian national team won gold in the group exercises. Thus, our team has won both gold medals on the line in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics for the fifth time in a row. VALERIA MIRONOVA - with details from Rio de Janeiro.

Yana Kudryavtseva found herself in Rio in a similar situation to the one in which the superchampion of those years Alina Kabaeva found herself in 2000 at the Sydney Games, who by her 18 years had won the all-around world championships three times, and in total she had already earned 13 top world titles. From Alina Kabaeva, the hoop "ran away" in Australia, and with it the Olympic title. He then went to her colleague in the national team Yulia Barsukova. Kabaeva achieved her goal only four years later in Athens. In Rio, Yana Kudryavtseva, despite having undergone a complex operation on the foot at the end of last year (she had a completely fractured scaphoid bone in the lifting area) and a three-month absence from competitive practice, came as a favorite. With all due respect to Margarita Mamun, who has also won several events at the world championships during her career, this brilliant 19-year-old gymnast was still considered the second number of the national team. But it was she, and not Yana Kudryavtseva, who was destined to win here first qualifying competitions, in which both of our athletes did not avoid mistakes, and then the final.

The main all-around competition, in which ten finalists consistently performed exercises with a hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon, was opened by Margarita Mamun. However, after two of her absolutely unmistakable exits, there was a feeling that the judges, despite all their impartiality (this fact was noted here by all the participants), still a little bit, but they held back their marks. Probably because then it was Yana Kudryavtseva's turn. And the arbiters, of course, knew firsthand how charmingly she can do her exercises. And when for her exits, first with a hoop, and then with a ball, Kudryavtseva received one and a half to two tenths more than Margarita Mamun, the feeling that it was her who was being brought to the highest pedestal was finally strengthened.

But everything changed in one second. With the final chord of the "cosmic" composition, under which Kudryavtseva launched, there were clubs to the sky, but could not catch them back. Although she tried to hide her embarrassment, already lying in the final position and covering the clubs with her hand. This mistake decided the fate of the Olympic gold, which smoothly rolled from her hands to the hands of her reliable understudy. Ironically, Yan Kudryavtsev was brought up with objects for which she worried less than others. “The most difficult exercises for me are with a hoop and a ribbon,” she told Kommersant. “There you have to run, jump, jump and fly, which, given my injury, is unsafe for me. The clubs are quieter. There you work more with your hands. "

It is noteworthy that the victory in the final form - in the exercise with the ribbon - was again won by Yana Kudryavtseva. But she went to him, knowing for sure that she would never become a champion under any circumstances.

Recalling the fateful moment for her, Yana Kudryavtseva said: “At the end of the performance, my strength was already running out, I threw the clubs badly and did not have time to realize that they were flying badly. That is, she could have done something, but did not have time. Of course, there is frustration, but there could be no silver either. "

Margarita Mamun (right) in the individual all-around beat her titled partner in the Russian national team, the favorite of the tournament, Yana Kudryavtseva

And Margarita Mamun, who cleanly performed all her compositions, staged by the head coach of the team Irina Zenovka and honed in collaboration with personal trainer Amina Zaripova under the supervision of the President of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation and the head coach of the national team Irina Viner-Usmanova, was in seventh heaven. “On the whole, I was calm,” the Olympic champion recalls her feelings during the tournament. “I didn’t see Yana’s mistake and didn’t know who was in which place. I found out about the mistake when Yana made the tape and came to me. After all, I also made a mistake in qualification - I was distracted for a split second. But after yesterday's clubs, I was no longer afraid to make a mistake again. Our sport is like this: I went out and did it. Wrong - only your fault. Yana and I always support each other and have become relatives to each other. "

Irina Viner-Usmanova believes that Margarita Mamun did all the exercises very cleanly. But she was especially noted for her ribbon exercise. “The tape is the last view on which everything could be decided. This is a very difficult subject, especially in Brazil, where the humidity is very high. We were scared that the ribbons would be tied, but I told the girls right away - some would be the first, some would not, and we worked calmly and correctly, ”Ms Viner-Usmanova emphasized.

And she called the performance of Yana Kudryavtseva a feat and a huge victory, referring to everything she experienced after the 2015 World Cup, in which the gymnast won with a broken leg. “Yana underwent a major operation, was in a cast for a month, then recovered for a long time. And today we saw the highest mark in three out of four types. In just one form, Yana did not bring the matter to the end, ”Ms Viner-Usmanova expressed regret and wished Yana Kudryavtseva, drawing an analogy with Alina Kabaeva, to rectify the situation at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

The Olympic triumph of Russian rhythmic gymnastics became complete - for the fifth time in a row - the next day, when group exercises... And this ending had a completely different plot than the personal ending. He even made me remember that there were times when someone else could challenge the Russian "artists", could get ahead of them.

In Rio, the Spanish women threw themselves into a challenge, having famously prepared for this Olympics. As cool as it was for the 1996 Olympics, when the group mined gold. They excelled in qualification, and in the first final exercise - with five ribbons - slightly, two tenths of a point, ahead of the Russian group. Moreover, between the two favorites, the Bulgarians also wedged themselves in. In the stands they whispered about the sensation until the performance of the Russian five - Vera Biryukova, Anastasia Bliznyuk, Anastasia Maksimova, Anastasia Tatareva and Maria Tolkacheva - took place in exercises with three clubs and two hoops.

It was amazing - in terms of dynamics, in terms of saturation with complex elements - the program. And for her, the Russian group received an amazing rating - 18.633. Against the background of her performance, even very, very, really decent in terms of the level of performances of Spanish women and Bulgarians did not look. These were the universes too different. And the points received for the clubs with hoops were, of course, quite enough for the Russian girls to take gold in total.
